Conan The Barbarian
While responding to the funeral thread I was reminded of this film...one of my favourites on many levels.
After taking the first two summers off at college....I spent my first summer in school because there were a couple classes I needed to take before the fall quarter. Ended up rooming with 4 buddies from New Smyrna in a 3 bedroom apartment off campus. I spent a fair amount of time reading that summer - and went through the entire Robert E. Howard "Conan" series - I think it was about 11 paperbacks at the time. Epic reading - Howard was an amazing writer. Years later the movie came out and I was of course delighted to see the character(s) come alive on the screen. Including 'Pipeline Master' Gerry Lopez. For all you other barbarians - here's a nice little documentary on the film:

I always wondered why there was never another sequel ( or 5 or 6 of them for that matter)

Part of the fascination of course was the amazing artwork of Frank Frazetta on the covers of the paperbacks....

Howard was and is still my favorite author. I started reading his stuff when I was in middle school... Had a huge collection of the Conan comics, too. The tales are part of what led me towards knife and sword makings in my early teens.
He wrote other tales too. The Brekenridge Elkins stuff is good, too. There was supposed to be a plan to make another film of Conan as King of Aquilonia when Arnold became old enough... I don't know why they didn't. I liked the newer film quite a bit. It's imagery stayed true to form, I'd say. Raw and harsh. I thought it was very true-to-Howard's vision. FYI, There's a movie out about Howard called The Whole Wide World with Vincent D'onofrio. It's quite good.

Thank you for the reply and info - interesting about the impact Howard had on your life! For me as well I have to say. No knife or sword making but just the fact the books were so well written and the fantasies were close to what I wanted to see myself living out - kinda hard to put into words but let's just say the term "wench" was 'muttered' on more than a few occasions since those days.....and those occasions let's just say were in a very similar context as many in the books...ha ha. ![]() Getting back to Howard....I just found the trailer for "The Whole Wide World" and it looks pretty good: I've always liked D'Onofrio and Zellweger as his G.F.....should be very entertaining! Thanks for the head's up... ![]()

How did you get Frazetta to do a portrait of sniper?

A bit of background on Stephanie's print:
Frank Frazetta's "Count Dracula" is an oil painting on board created in 1966. Renowned for his incredible talent in depicting fantasy and science fiction subjects, Frazetta's portrayal of Count Dracula showcases his artistic style and mastery of capturing the essence of classic horror characters as well. Originally, this artwork was featured as the cover illustration for CREEPY Magazine No. 5 in 1965. CREEPY Magazine was a popular horror-themed comic magazine that gained a significant following during the 1960s and 1970s. ![]()

Cool. Been at least 35 years since I’ve seen it. It was on tv the other night but I didn’t watch it. Next time I’ll check it out
Saw Gerry interviewed recently. He is looking really old these days.

"Do you want to live forever?"
Not the best movie I've ever seen but... It certainly was important to me at the time and it still holds up well to this day! My departed father also thought it was really good (the snake morph scene especially). Thanks Baz! ![]()

Conan is about five years away from entering the public domain. Some in Europe say he already has. Could be a renaissance or a **** show. I know a few people with ideas ready to go.

I had a Frazetta calendar in my lab every year until one of the female techs complained, about the pornography.
