Yeah me too. They take full autos REAL seriously. Ditto on heavy. Make it hard to drag out even with a truck and a chain too. Basement is good.

even a cabinet with additional latches and locks is better than the night stand.

They do have a great product and yes, built here in the states. Please watch his vidios. I will upgrade my amsec to a sturdy when I can.

2nd, a safe is only part of the plan. You need to keep it out of site from anyone that comes into your home. You also need to make sure that they can not cart it of somewhere else to open it. Mine is bolted into my homes 1 1/2" tounge and grove flooring with 1/2" lag bolts. It's stuck into a corner to prevent pry attacks on the door seams plus to deny 3 sides to fire and attack. next it's in a closet so that it's harder to work tools around. When my safe door opens it sends an alert to my cell as well.

Most of us have worked with metal. we know what it takes to bend,cut and rip apart things. Most safes are too weak!

I have a fiend who is a collector and dealer in rarities. He deals in just about everything you could imagine except for firearms.

His house is littered with safes. All of them are ex commercial bank safes he bought second hand (for not a lot of money). About six months ago he was broken into and the crooks didn't get any of his safes open.
All of them are bolted down to the concrete slab in his house. They had a serious go because the Police estimated they were in his house for hours. Three of the safes were scared with multiple cuts and drill holes.

Is buying a second hand Bank Safe an option?

I helped move the three damaged safes in my friends house and they are very very heavy. We used a small pallet like, lifting device that he had rented that was rated at 20 tonnes.
Even using that it was hard work. It took over and hour per safe to get them out of his house. The biggest/heaviest one was 2,500 kg.

You're right. The best we can do it stop basic theft and fire. Bolting anything to concrete and putting it against walls is best so they can't be pryed. Most locks can be defeated by a professional, but generally we aren't up against professionals. What we have isn't worth the time of a safe cracker.

The main thing we should worry about is fire and smash and grab. 30 minutes is not enough. 60-90 is good enough.

For fire, imo it depends upon where one lives. I'd even be OK with a 30 min rating since a fire station is just a few hundred yards away. If I lived in one of my houses "out in a rural county"...it'd be a different matter entirely. Just my ..02 worth...

i love my new gunsafe. remembering the combination has been a challenge. i dont open the box enough. is it completely secure? no probably not. i imagine a man with an industrial portable bandsaw could open a corner up pretty easy. whatever.

my brother's thing..they recovered pretty much everything. didnt work out for the burglar so well. the MP5 was always safe..someone on the team grabbed it to clean it.

that thing is fun to shoot. you eat up ammo faster than you can wipe the stupid smile off your face. braaaaapppp!

I'm nervous about the sawzall or prybar thief. I've seen a destroyed safe and was surprised how simple it seemed to defeat. If I put a 2t safe in my house I would have new access to the crawlspace but I like the concept of a big old safe. Home alarm is the first line of defense, then a decent safe.

fire doesnt bother me. if my collection melts into a puddle of black poo..so be it.

the fear for me, is for some idiot to steal my stuff and use it in a crime. a drive by, a robbery, murder. it would break my heart.

having said that..i tried. i need to confirm all the model numbers and serial numbers..put the list somewhere safe. maybe my safe deposit box. if they get stolen..the bright side, i get to go gun shopping. the insurance company will give you a credit card..prepaid. it would be awesome to go into a gun store and say..

"oh, i'll take one of those..and that one..yes, one of those too!!..you have this in synthetic? yes?..ok, i'll take it..and that one too..for the wife..oh, i like that too..does the holster make my butt look big? no? i'll take it in brown.."

Buying second hand is ok if you're buying well rated safes. I missed out on a TL30 6 sided safe for $750 that was 72x30x28

Guys please remove postings on how to get into them. Most of us work metal here.
I had a person set up an account on this forum just to ask me a car question due to a search on line that lead him here over a pic of someone elses car that I posted.

I would love to have a Sturdy brand safe I feel tht it's 1 notch below a TL15

Amsecs BF series are pretty well regarded as well.


TL30 means that a pro with tools only attacking the front will need 30 minutes 6 sided tl30 will take 30 minutes on any side that is attacked

Most safes are RSC and will take a PRO less than 10 minutes

Now, It's your job to make it harder. BOLTING the safe down makes it much harder. placing the door in an area to preventing pry attacks with long objects makes it harder. building walls around the safes sides and tops will make it harder.hiding the damn thing makes it harder.

In side my safe is where I keep all of my metal cutting blades. Don't let a thieve use your tools to steal your stuff.

A good home security plan involves multiple layers - exterior motion lights at entrances, good quality locks and deadbolts, alarm system, barking dog, and of course for valuables some sort of locked storage.

If you have a garage or access to an out of the way storage room you might also consider a job site box. Early this year I bought a used Knaack model 60 on Craigs list for $200. Dimensions are H:23" W: 24" L: 60" Empty Weight (lbs.): 190. I took that opportunity to blow away my existing garage workbench and incorporated the Knaack into a new workbench. I used lots of heavy lumber and lag bolts in the construction and frankly am very happy with the result. The box is bolted in place from inside and blocks access to the supporting structure. I lined the interior and am still working on some mounts and racks. Tons of space. Even my wife says it looks awesome!! As already mentioned nothing is going to stop a pro or someone equipped with power cutting tools. For the typical smash and grab event I am confident this will keep all my stuff secure. No fire rating but that's what home insurance is for. I'm not going to post pics here but you can PM me for them.

If you can, put the safe in a closet and build shelves around it. That way, it is out of sight to casual visitors and difficult to remove.

what does this mean for me? means my woefully secured home will be needing a safe. i think i am going to go this route. i am going to brace up my flooring alittle bit, because loading slightly exceeds the standard live loading (empty). will round up some friends to help me move it. i actually keep most of my stuff in a friends huge safe.

i like it cuz it is USA made.
