Vash,
I take it that you will be doing lot of walking up and down trails or even X country humping some weight on your back? Way back when I was bike racing and running x country in high school, I thought I was in shape. I was in great shape for the sport I was involved. Come backpacking time, in the high Sierras, it kicked my fat ass. I was not used to caring weight and walking for miles at a time. The terrain and the thin air killed me. My biddy came back from the Marines (basic) kicked our skinny ass because he was so used to walking for miles with a pack on him. My suggestion is to get a pack and load it up with some weight (#20?)and start humping the local hills. |

Oh, the year after high school, only the two of us nut jobs were able to hitch hike across the Sierra backpacking. I prepped for that one. Once a week, I walked with a 25 lbs backpack and my dirty boots in my local hills. I would do several loops near the police academy which is right by my home every Thursday after school for about four hours . I had no problem on that trip that summer, but the #60 lbs pack still kick my fat azz near the end of the day.
Oh forgot to tell you, I did it once a month for three months before the trip. I was still putting in 400 miles a week riding and racing. Last edited by look 171; 06-18-2012 at 04:21 PM.. |

Heck, I just stuck a bunch of cans, bottles of water and a big jacket and my running shoe (just in case), to take up all the space in there. This way, I will also get used to the sagging off balance, sagging pack too. Well, most of the weight are on the hips.
