The local library has a HUGE selection of DVDs with old TV shows, movies, current releases, etc. Better selection than the old video rental places used to ever have! Plus, it costs no additional monies and they take any of our old DVDs we no longer wish to own.

Have not "paid" for TV since I got rid of the ex in '92! Don't miss that bill.

Your ex's name was bill? . Timely thread for me. Not due to the Viacom, as I've been meaning to drop DTV for a while and came online to do so...can't . Gotta call 'em up later.

Our library has them also.
Of course I have piles of DVD's at the pawnshop but there's just so much crap out there. We watch about two movies/month (and don't have tv), I sleep through most of them. Cathy will sit through almost anything. We visit the library often but rarely bring home a video.

it's called a book, amazing device, no batteries or power cord required.

Imagination and visualization is up to the user too.

Viacom decided that directTV needed to pay them 30% more for their channels from now on. Over a $billion increase.
I'd have told them to go pack sand too.

Just heard this yesterday. I'm not a happy camper either. May have to tell DirecTV to punt as well. Really loving Netflix right now. We are watching "Lost" on my daughter's Wii. No commercials, all six seasons, 127 episodes, and loving it! The biggest hurdle for me is convincing my 13 year old that she will actually live without live TV. My wife is on the fence. I'm all about cutting costs at this point.

Dish dumped AMC. I am going to miss the final season of Breaking Bad

Looks like Dish is giving "big" customers Roku 2 machines. I think I'll give them a call an see if I can snag one. The "savings" will be spent on Amazon for the Breaking Bad season 5, season pass.

So what recourse do we DirecTV subscribers have if we're barely 13 mos. into a 24 mos. contract when they change the terms? I just noticed some of my favorite channels disappeared minutes ago. When my company changes vendors or suppliers, we have to give current subscribers what they paid for until the end of their contract term. I have Century Link DSL bundled with my DirecTV and CL has been a total nightmare. This may be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Cox will give me a deal to go back to them. What happens if I break off the deal with DirecTV?

TV networks are not worth paying for.

100% pay-per-view here. Apple TV in my place and Roku at a friends' place are all I bother watching these days. The way the networks/channels bundle this stuff is just garbage and not worth a red cent to me. I walked away from subscription TV a while ago and haven't missed it one bit.

Some years back we had some channels changed or dropped from our subscribed Dish network. After hashing it out with them, they gave us premium movie channel package for nothing and a years worth.

Not sure how good Direct TV is but maybe call customer service and ask for a supervisor. Then ask for their supervisor. (Leave this duty to your spouse...lol). Tell them they broke the contract with you as you subscribed and expected those network channels. Have them email you as confirmation of your cancellation without penalty.

Somewhere in the written contract it will state that the channel lineup is subject to change without notice. Accordingly they have not broken the contract.
