Cats do the darndest things
Last week, due to the fires, I discovered I had a friend in one of my backyard pine trees.
The neighbor came running over at 8am saying that she thought her dog had chased a mountain lion into my tree..........yea right, a mountain lion.....raccoon maybe, but a lion,.....I'm thinking no way. So, out we go into the back yard and head toward the trees.....Did you know that even with all the branches you can see a mountain lions tail at about 30'!! In a true Darwin moment, I continued toward the tree until I could see him really well......which means he can see me really well.......and he is not the least bit concerned. At this point I am about 20-25' from him and he is about 15' up the tree. So rather than run inside, I tell the neighbor lady to stay there (she's about 5' behind me) so I can get my..........camera! What a gentleman! Back up close, (the wise neighbor lady and my wife are back on the patio) I start taking pictures. This is one relaxed cat, no movement, no hard stare, just me taking pic's. D.O.W. shows up in about 25 min. thinking, "yea right, this clown has a lion in his tree". I meet them at the back gate and within a few feet they notice the tail. Holy Moly, this clown does have a lion in his tree. Time to call dart gun boy. Enjoy the pic's Karl 88 Targa ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Must be a young one. It looks like he still has shadows of his kitten spots.

I know the kind of damage my house cats can do to a person, I can't even imagine having that thing ticked off at me

He was about 80-85 lbs. And your right, 2 years old. Still had spots, what they called "2" baby teeth. Paws were friggin huge, and when they pressed the paws, the CLAWS would really get your attention.
DOW figured he'd been hangin' around since the fire or about 2 weeks. the neighbors had scat piles, but didn't know what it was until he was found. He was beautiful and according to the experts, he was healthy........which means he had been eating good! DOW was very happy we called them and not 911. They said between the media and the cops and the riled up folks they would have probably had a chase on there hands. The head fur was VERY soft, around the neck it became more course. Paws were very soft as well. Kinda cool, and I will do things a bit differently next time. Even those guys were wearing M&P 45's and come dart time it was Rem. 870's with a combo of rubber and 00 Karl 88 Targa |

That was cool. And as you said, it was truly a Darwin moment. Fortunately it had been eating and you did not look tasty. It is great it worked out well for everyone and the kitty.

That's awesome you got to get some good pics. Where'd they take him? Relocation to the woods somewhere? I certainly hope so. And I'm really glad they tranq'd him rather than getting some "boo-yah" goon out there who'd just shoot it and toss on the nearest trash pile (and yes, they're out there).
I wonder how many times I've been watched by mountain lions while hiking. They say they're always around and you just typically never see them because they don't want to be seen.

So, just out of curiosity, how quickly did that tranquilizer work and did they leave any lying around?
