You say that as if you have totally forgotten that thread.

Here, skim it again... it might make more sense to you now: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-politics-religion/695074-another-gun-homicide-law-abiding-gun-owner.html

The interesting part of Australian gun legislation, is that before the the all out Gun ban in 1996.. Crime was steadily dropping year after year..

But after the Gun ban in 1996, it's done nothing but increase

Countrywide, homicides are up 3.2 percent;
Assaults are up 8.6 percent;
Amazingly, armed robberies have climbed nearly 45 percent;
In the Australian state of Victoria, gun homicides have climbed
300 percent;
“dramatic increase” in home burglaries and assaults on the elderly.

So much for the great ban on guns in Australia..

Knives were the most common weapon used in the majority of locations (eg corner stores, supermarkets and takeaways 62%; post offices and newsagents 58%; open spaces 58%).

If data are analysed in a victim-based format, a count of six handguns would result, but if the unit of analysis is the incident, only one handgun is counted.

You're right, i'm sorry.. I forgot that being threatened with a knife , unlike being threatened with a gun, is actually a right laugh..
It's not actually robbery, the store keepers pay for the entertainment value..
And them old people, well, they're old, everything scares them.. so never mind that.

This is about guns. That video is the biggest bunch of propaganda.

Over the past 18 years the rate* of homicide incidents decreased from 1.9 in 1990-91 and 1992-93 to the second-lowest recorded rate, of 1.3, in 2006-07. *rate per 100,000 population.

These homocides are not all gun deaths. They are murders in all forms and around 85% knew their murderer.

Rick V 08-30-2012 12:54 AM

I just pray that those of you who do not like guns and think that no one should have one never, ever has a time come when they need one.
I respect your right to not be armed but it seems that my right shouldn't be taken away.

dewolf 08-30-2012 01:02 AM

These national gun laws have proven beneficial. Research published in 2010 in the American Journal of Law and Economics found that firearm homicides, in Australia, dropped 59 per cent between 1995 and 2006. There was no offsetting increase in non-firearm-related murders. Researchers at Harvard University in 2011 revealed that in the 18 years prior to the 1996 Australian laws, there were 13 gun massacres (four or more fatalities) in Australia, resulting in 102 deaths. There have been none in that category since the Port Arthur laws.

A key component of the 1996 measure, which banned the sale, importation and possession of all automatic and semi-automatic rifles and shotguns, was a national buy-back scheme involving the compulsory forfeiture of newly illegal weapons. Between 1996 and 1998 more than 700,000 guns were removed and destroyed. This was one-fifth of Australia’s estimated stock of firearms. The equivalent in the US would have been 40 million guns. Australia’s action remains one of the largest destructions of civilian firearms.

duh wolf.................i can go just about anywhere i want with a spoon, concealed or not concealed. every single day of my life............FOR YEARS NOW!

and NO CRIME has befallen me.

and we like that alot.

any border state has guns flowing to mexico. why? straw buyers and burglaries. cartels pay big bucks for spoons. BIG BUCKS!

but since SB 1070 came around, illegal alien numbers have plummeted, as they knew the gitting wasnt good here anymore ripping people off and with good reason.

i have been carrying CCW for so long now, i dont even think about it anymore. its no different than a cell phone, a 3/8" ratchet. its tool thats there when/if needed. thats all. we are not walking around here with 10 gallon "peudner" hats, with sequin shirts and pants with frilly beads and silver spurs and "kawbuoy" boots on, looking for another "NOT -OK-CORRAL" shootout. you have watched "tombstone" one too many times.

its no different than any metro area anywhere, with the exception if somebody whats to become "uppitty" and start shooting/robbing the place..............its going to END VERY QUICKLY for mr bad guy. and its NOT GOING TO END WELL!

good luck with yer sling shot.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1346331442.jpg

by the way the above pic is a 12 gauge brenneke slug from a "hundert"(100) YARDS! i'd even say thats a hell of a shotgun grouping.

Only partially correct. This is every bit as much about one's right to defend one's self, and one's loved ones, from violent attack. Probably even more so, really.

That's the problem with your very narrow view of the topic - for you, it's all about the object - the gun. It is apparent that in your view, if we eliminate the object - the gun - with it goes all the abberant behavior that it supposedly "causes". You seem wholey unable to grasp the fact that even when the guns go away, the criminal behavior continues. History has proven, in the case of your own country (and England) that the criminal behavior actually increases. Dramatically. Granted, guns are featured less in that behavior but, as Stjin points out, it matters not one whit if one is threatened with a gun, knife, baseball bat, tire iron, pipe wrench, or whatever. If one is in the unhappy position of having no means at one's disposal to defend one's self, it really becomes quite moot with regards to what the attacker is using. And no, this is never a sporting event where "fairness" has anything to do with it - the victim has every right to trump the attacker with overwhelming force, with a disparity in arms.

For the average person, the gun is the means to provide for one's personal protection. The frailest little old lady becomes more than a match for her 20 year old, muscle bound, drug crazed attacker. That is the key - it provides the means for anyone, regardless of physical stature, to defend one's self against any attacker.

Once again, that remains as one of the most basic of human rights. Until you and your kind can come up with a viable alternative, or can completely rid this world of violent criminals so that is no longer a concern, you have no right to tell anyone else they cannot defend themselves. Taking their guns away is telling them just that. You have no right to do that. Go ahead, by all means - feel free to make that decision for yourself and your loved ones. That is your right. Just don't try to force your decision upon me and my loved ones - you have no right to do that.

Well said, Jeff!

ODDJOB UNO 08-30-2012 06:17 AM

oh "duh-wolf" heres my connection to OZ........................

here a coupla years ago i was minding my own biz, enjoying going FROM SPOON STORE TO SPOON STORE SHOPPING, and i found this damn nice NRA 99.9% smith and wesson model 66 stainless 4" barrel .357 MAGNUM!

why it wasnt NRA 100%(to me) was for 2 reasons:

1) it had a safety lock installed on left side

2) and did not have corresponding serial numbered box.

MINT CONDITION...............BEAUTIFUL and best of all, IT FIT MY HAND REALLY REALLY NICE!

i had been looking for one for awhile to compliment my marlin 1894CS .357 stainless lever action.

anyway the price was a lousy $300 bucks.

i feel in love, and bought it.

well with anything i buy used, i always and i mean ALWAYS:

1) take to thegunsmith.com and have nelson ford look it over. maybe do an action job etc. set sights blah blah.

2) check serial numbers with the mfg. smith and wesson and find out its "BIRTHDAY" and background history.

well low and behold, my model 66 was produced back in the 1990's and the contract for a boatload of them went to some OZ POLICE FORCE!

yepper they contracted for smith to put the "childproof" lock on it as all US mfg model 66's did NOT come with them.

and if i'm correct back in 1996 the draconian gun laws landed in yer lap.

hmmmmmm.............whats up with this?

well it seems my model 66 and quite a few others were sold BACK to somebody here in the u.s. and after looking at quite a few now, NONE OF THEM WERE EVER SHOT!

we call them "barney fifes" after the TV show "andy of mayberry" and barney fife was a small town cop who only was allowed to carry (1) bullet for his revolver because he was so inept.

so i wanted to thank all of you in OZ , for not ever using these model 66's, and allowing me and others to pick up another nice quality spoon at rock bottom prices.

i'm sure the entire batch even in quanity had to have been at least $600USD per copy. that means i got mine for 1/2 off and i like that alot.

thanks OZ. i think i will name it "OLIVIA" after yer export to us in the u.s., "OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN"(please take her back).

dewolf 08-30-2012 02:37 PM
