simple SC question

Do these uni-body 911s (3.0 and 3.2)wear out, or fatigue? I am talking about the chassis not motor or mechanical parts. How about suspension parts? Some of these high mileage cars, over 250-300k miles with a rebuilt, are still going for big bucks. The new motor may get the car upwards of 400-500k miles. what do you guys think?

Soft parts wear out of course. The tub and and steel suspension parts will virtually never wear out.

You think its OK to buy one with 350k or even 450k miles SC or Carrera if the motor, tranny, and all the suspension parts are in great shape?

The tub will pretty much last forever. It's like a locomotive; BNSF still uses 1950's locomotives everyday although they have been rebuilt several times.

If it's been maintained and cheap enough, I suppose. That's a lot of miles on everything from the seats to the cigarette lighter, though.

A friend found one in the central cost that he really like and asked me about it. I am in the process of talking him out of seeing it due to the miles. Still, he's asking 24k for it. Rebuild motor and tranny about 20,000miles ago along with suspension refresh with Elephant bits. That's a lot of money for an old car?

24k for an SC with 250k miles is too much money, no matter if it is completely rebuilt.

That said, the chassis does not wear out. It is designed to stay under the fatigue limit. This means that no matter how many cycles of stress are applied to the chassis, it will never fatigue / fail.

HTH?

I had a super clean, well-sorted '83 SC, everything rebuilt except the tranny between 80-90k miles. I sold her with 100k miles for $20k and feel that was probably top of the market in 2006.
