Stones at 02

A good friend had tickets to the Stones 50th anniversary show at the London 02 last night, and what a great show it was! There were some fine tributes from other stars, and lots of nostalgia.

That said, the energy of Mick at his age was amazing. And Keef managed to keep his end up.

I gather there will be a similar show(s) in New York in the near future. Well worth the trouble of getting there IMO. This could be the last hurrah for the boys.

A couple of pics off the internet:

All Blues musicians get better with age. Let's hope the same for the Rolling Stones! I quite like the new single, by the way.

I recently watched the documentary Crossfire Hurricane. It is about the early days of the stones from formation to the early 70s. I enjoyed it. I had forgotten how much the Stones were the bad boys and the Beatles were the good boys. I just wonder how many women today saw their own parents in the footage. I can imaging some 25 year old lady gasping at seeing her mom on film as a young groupie.

tix are a fortune....... I have seen them on every US tour until the last one and they finally just priced me out of going. I'm glad for them as they ARE the best R&R band ever but ......geez guys don't you have enough money? If it's gonna be a farewell tour let us ALL say goodbye. Ok ...I'm done now....

*Note* Cirque Du Solel has also priced out, used to be a big fan.**

Always liked Charlie the best for some reason. I think he's the oldest and has the hottest chick of them all too. He should be the rep. on all those Viagra and Extenze ads....and maybe Old Guys Rule tee shirts as well....

I've seen them twice and both times figured it would be their last tour. That was 20 yrs. ago. Well, Steel Wheels was Bill's last tour with them. I got paid for both of those shows, one working security and the other selling beer out front before the show. I got to stand in the pit and watch them do a soundcheck in the empty Three Rivers Stadium on the Steel Wheels tour. Pretty cool. But watching their live videos, the tempo on just about every song is way too fast.

I"ve never seen them and have no desire ( and I"m a big fan) but i"m with Rick ,, seems to me that they are bored with the old songs (who wouldn't be??) and change them up for the sake of changing them up.. go ahead flame me!

I would be content to call any Stones concert the concert of a lifetime, especially these shows they're doing now. They are such a unique band, each one of them incredibly strong and individual. 50 years now, it's been wonderful, life has been like a Stones soundtrack...

I went to a Stones concert just a few days ago.

Well, actually, it was in 1975.

July 4th, Liberty Bowl, Memphis, TN.

Stones, early '80s, L.A. I can't actually remember much about the show. Prince was the opener, he got booed, I remember that, and then the [deleted] must have kicked in.

The Rolling Stones are the worlds greatest band IMHO.

Saw them at the Georgia Tech stadium on the Steel Wheels tour?

That was an infamous show, as was the one with Guns and Roses opening at the Coliseum in '89. I saw them on every tour from 1971, (I was 12), to 1989. Missing a Rolling Stones tour in those days was unthinkable, there was never something better going on in Minneapolis, MN. on those nights.

I have no desire to see them now, but in fairness I really don't like crowds or seeing live music anymore. I went to hundreds of shows as a kid and young person and saw everyone I ever wanted to see. I was very lucky as a fan. I am personally of the opinion that the Stones should have hung it up in the '70s when they were on top artistically and commercially, they would be so much cooler now if they had. Now it's just more corporate rock with $100 tickets for senior citizens.

I've never seen them live, but have always wanted to.

Went to see Shine a Light (2008) in the theatre and really enjoyed it. IMAX would have taken it to another level. Scorcese's frenetic jump cuts tended to get on my nerves a little, but the sound was incredible... they had it nice and loud in the there.

I will definitely be picking up Crossfire Hurricane... that covers their best period, IMO.

Milking the aging baby boomer cash cow is very, very profitable so who can blame them? In several years we will have the Devil’s Pacemaker Tour, followed by the Hot Licks Wheelchair Tour etc etc etc.
