PowerBall ticket purchase proxy

Anyone in Az. or Wa. willing to pick up a PowerBall ticket for me? I'll PayPal $10.00 plus change to cover the pp fees and you can scan and forward the ticket to me.
I'll sweeten the pot by sharing 10% of any winnings.
Anyone??
Thanks

How about if I find out tonight if it's a winner before forwarding it to you ?

Be careful doing things like this, I am not sure if a scanned copy and paypal receipt would stand up in court if your ticket won, and whoever bought it for you decided to keep.

Thats true but I know three people in Az. or Wa. who are honest enough to justify the $10.00 risk.

The way to keep them honest is to have it mailed and postmarked to you today. Sorry, but I'm probably not going out again today. Got mine yesterday at the grocery store.

Why AZ or WA? They sell them here in MO and many other states. I'll pick you up one this afternoon. Any special numbers?

My wife called me to talk about someone on The Today Show who won the lottery and it destroyed their life. She then told me to pick up $10 worth of powerball on the way home.

I think I'm gonna light a couple $1 bills on fire tonight. Unlike the lottery tickets I'll get something useful out of it - some temporary heat, light and entertainment.

If you processed one lottery number per second it would take you almost six years (no eating, sleeping, bathroom breaks, etc.) to find a winner. Good luck but no thanks for me.

Anyone who watches the Today Show is not far behind those broke lotto winners. Money doesn't build character, it reveals it. I would never let anyone, other than lawyer and accountant, know if I won and that would prevent most of the problems that come along with it.

I don't even know about those two heathen types, (although I am with you on not telling anyone but some states require you publicize it I think) . I'll bury the damn pile in my back yard and see if anyone can get past Maxx

Since this one is a large multistate pot, I'm sure the winner will have to give a press conference or make some kind of public appearance. I'd appear with a lawyer, not say a word, well, maybe a "thank you," and then leave. I'd change my phone number and go stay in a hotel until things calmed down. My biggest worry would be family members finding out. I wouldn't even speak to friends or strangers about it, but dealing with all the relatives' outstreteched hands would be a problem, no matter how I did it.

Normally she doesn't stoop so low.

As much as I admire your idealistic notions, I wonder if it is realistic. History says that it is not. While I like to think that I would be able to keep it a secret, in my opinion nothing short of cutting ties and moving away from your current location would allow you to do so. Nobody would notice that you quit your job? Bought new car(s) significantly nicer than your could previously afford? Bought a new house? Started traveling more? Even if you saved the vast majority and lived within your means, living within your means after winning over $500M is a pretty big change from the life most of us live.

So when your friends and family start coming out of the woodwork because they know you have money from "somewhere", how do you respond? Give them all money and eventually go broke? Tell them no and be hated? I've seen relatively small sums of money tear families apart on several occasions. This much money would be like a nuke going off in your life.

Well, they might figure I have a lot more money than I used to, but I'm under no obligation to explain it to them. My personal finances are no one's business at all. My parents don't even know how much I earn now, but they think I'm well off. The closest family I have live a three hr. drive from here, the next one a two hr. flight and my folks a four hr. flight. It's not like they'd be dropping in unannounced and I am not the type to go out an immediately buy a bunch of toys anyway. I'd live on a strict allowance of interest and dividend income, which wouldn't even start paying for several months. I don't need money immediately and am in no rush at all. I wouldn't claim the prize for several weeks or even months after winning. I'd get my ducks in a row first and plan meticulously. Anything I gave to family would be anonymously through a third party and probably with a non-disclosure agreement. I feel no obligation at all to tell anyone anything or to show off.

I like your perspective, but I don't believe it.

Boy you have this all planned out and quite well I might add. Something to think about. Not that I'll need to

Why? I have most of the toys I ever wanted already, like my job, already work from home in my underwear, ride my motorcycle on business trips and take a few int'l. vacations each year. What about winning the lotto would change my wants and needs overnight? I don't think anything. One character flaw I don't share with most other Americans is a burning desire to be loved, liked or thanked. I knew the value of anonymity long ago and will always cherish it.

For starters, I don't think you could keep it a secret no matter how hard you tried. I also don't think that most people, when given a significant amount of money, wouldn't make some significant changes or purchases. You like your job so much that you'd continue to work even when the pay constitutes pocket change? Have all the toys you want? Live in the house you want? It's really easy for us to say that now, but in the moment I suspect that your humanity would get the best of you.

My honest assessment of what I'd do? I'd buy a place with some land outside of town, build a nice shop, and start a company buying/restoring/reselling classic and interesting cars. And I'd invest the hell of it into conservative funds and live off of the dividends.
