Cars you wish you hadn't sold
I've been fortunate that most of my adult life I've been able to run cars that rang my bell, even when I wasn't a decent earner. Along the way, sometimes you screw up and sell or trade a car that you'd wish you could have kept.
My worst? Trading my 1966 Duetto, that I bought in the late 70's from Bobcor in NJ, and trading back to them towards a brand new 1983 Alfa Romeo GTV-6. ![]()

I wish I could have kept my 74 914 2.0
that ordered new to my specs. My current 85 Carrera replaced it.

Now in 993 land ...
|
I have owned nothing that's not still out there now. It may have gone up in $$$, but not more than it would have cost to keep my old car(s) around. No regrets here - I never owned anything rare or very expensive anyways. All my fun cars were consolidated over time into better and better cars, with the 993 currently being the culmination! It has been 6 years, so this one will be tough to top for me.

Lets see...
1951 Mercury two door... really miss that one. 1961 Jaguar XK-E "flat floor" 3.8 model. 1967 Austin Healey 3000... really miss this one! 1972 911. Still want a "four door" 911 again. Other than that, am very happy with what I have right now.

I has a 1967 VW Type II Bus. It had pretty bad rust problems and I sold it for more than I had in it, but still.

I wish I would have kept my 56' Austin Healey 100M ex-factory race car and the 58' MGA coupe that I sold to buy a twin cam MGA, but the sale fell though and I already sold the coupe.

I don't regret selling my 914-6. I regret the reason.

1969 Camaro Z-28, looked like this, but without the shaker hood or the OEM wheels:
![]() Bought it in 1974 for $1,800. Noticed the carpet would pull away from the floor easily and when pulled up, you could see where the roll cage was mounted... Not sure if I did it right, but when I checked the engine numbers, a 283 was indicated. Ran like a bat out of hell though. I raced a friend in a 1970 Z-28 with a 4-bolt main with 4.11 gears (I had 3.73s) and was slightly ahead of him through nearly a 1/4 mile. Sold it for $1,800, including a bearskin rug, a rifle, and a hydroplane hull. Geez. Had a lot of cars that I liked at the time, but nothing I ever regretted selling, including a 1980 Saab Turbo, 1984 GTI, 1986.5 Supra, 1989 Mustang LX conv 5.0, 2002 Grand Cherokee Overland 4.7 HO, 2004 WRX, and a 2008 ZO6. Had a lot more cars I regretted buying...

I'd like to have either my '56 Austin Healey 100-4 or my '59 Triumph TR3 back.

Do we miss the cars, or the time we owned them, or the good times we had with them? I'm guessing all three
![]() My turn: I wish I hadn't sold my first Datsun 510. And I really wish I hadn't sold my second Datsun 510. |
