Porsche-Miata Correlation?
It has occurred to me that a lot of folks seem to talk about various Porsches and Miatas. I happen to have one of each myself, and am curious how many of y'all have been bitten by both.

I had a 99 Miata and sold it to buy a 2001 Boxster base. I do not miss the Miata too much as the latter has air cond. and heated seats. The Miata was a base car and had no options. Was on life support in winter, battery in trunk, needed constant boosting, had to have block heater plugged in. IMO Miata is too small for a winter driver. Box is not much bigger but feels more solid. Box needs more $$$ to run but no regrets. I have only a 2 car garage so the Miata had to go.Good post

My Porsche was a turning 50 gift to myself. But I started out looking at late model Miatas until I realized that an 80s 911 Cab was roughly the same $s to buy & put a far bigger smile on my face.

I am more of a Miata-BMW guy . . .
But I remain optimistic that I will one day own a GT3. |

Twenty some years ago, we traded my wife's MR2 on a used 924S. I drove that thing everywhere for a few years, then the company refused to pay for premium fuel, so I first parked it, then sold it (stupid mistake).
12 years ago, I came across '69E that needed me, so bought it, worked on it and realized after a while it needed someone willing to put more money into it.. Sold it last year and started looking for more toys. This fall, I was talking to a friend and found he was selling his first Miata. It was a '90 with a diagnosed small nose crank problem. I did some research on Miata.net, made him an offer, spent a few hours fixing the damaged crank (look up "Loctite Repair for Miata SNC") and had it on the road within a week. The thing has been a hoot. Its handling is reminiscent of the 924, plus the roof drops. My first convertible. The work it needs is well within my comfort zone and if I mess up, it is worth only a fraction the 911 was. Best Les

I have a '93 Miata sitting in the garage collecting dust. It's been sitting unused for quite a while now, as with the lousy economy and my dwindling income, it makes no sense to insure too many cars at once.
Nothing better than a Miata on a Summer day on a twisty road with the top down. More fun to drive the snot out of an underpowered car than drive a 400hp car at less than half throttle. |

I had an '88 Targa. I loved that car and used it as a daily driver for almost 5 years. The problem was that just after I bought it, I got laid off and my income went way down for several years. I eventually sold it for financial reasons. When I sold it, I knew that not just any car would do. I needed a cheap, reliable vehicle, but I also needed one that provided a similar driving experience to the 911. I decided the only thing that would fit all of my criteria (cheap, reliable and very fun to drive) would be a miata. I had a '97 miata. It was good, but not good enough, so I upgraded the springs and shocks and went from 14" wheels to 15" wheels. Those mods transformed the car. The car could easily be driven with the throttle and would corner at speeds comparable to the 911. It was much slower in a straight line but was still zippy enough at normal speeds. I thought of it as my Porsche Jr. We then bought my wife a '99 miata and moved the hardtop from mine to hers. Several years later, I upgraded my '97 to an '04 with the factory turbo. In stock form, it's much better than the old '97 was. It's got upgraded springs, sway bars, brakes, LSD, better seats, and, of course, a turbo. The handling and ride is better than my old '97 was and I'd put the acceleration somewhere between an SC and a 3.2L Carrera. This car is a ton of fun to drive.
Still, my plan is to eventually have another Porsche. I'm not sure if I'll go with a long hood, 3.2L, 964, 993, turbo, boxster, cayman, etc.... I've thought about them all. I guess when the time comes, I'll have to test drive them and consider them all. Really, the old tag-line was right. ![]()

I don't need a Miata, my wife has a VW Cabrio, so anytime I want to get in touch with my feminine side, I drive it.

I have a 944 and can't afford to keep it running... as much as I love it (the 944) with my paycheck it makes way more sense (money wise) to sell it and get a Miata.
