I am new here

Just regestered here today, (Christmas Day).
I'm in So Calif, I have a '64 hardtop cab 'C' that has NOT even been started since 1983 and now that I am retired, would like to get it back on the road. I will spend some time perusing (!) the forums and wont do much posting for a while. Glad to be here, , , -corne-

(I found this place through the M B section, I also have a 1950 170d diesel mercedes)

Beware the dark side young skywalker, stay out of the PARF forum unless you have really, really thick skin.

Welcome Cornemuse. Newbie status does not last long. You have lots of company in California - newbies, oldies etc. Canada, Australia we are out on left base and monitor the elephant that could roll either way.

Enjoy the ride. There is no shortage of opinions on any topic on this forum. Just ask us.

Heres a pic of my cab:

Its even dustier now, this pic is 12 years old. I was rearranging things so to park the MB in garage.

The Cab is '64 C, has about 135,000 miles on it, its my 4th, had a '65 coupe, '62 roadster, & a '51 coupe before this one which I got in 1st week of Jan 1971. The guy I got it from had taken it to 'Earl Sheib" for an 'Apollo Blue' paint job. I had a friend (autobody man at local Chev dealorship) re paint it to original color (# on door jamb color=white). He called me one night to come look at it, it looked like a zippo lighter! He had gone to bare metal (+ small patches of orig primer). It took him a few weeks to find proper 'white' paint. this was in 1982. I was married w/ 2 kids and this was not a car for that, so I parked it (inside) ever since and am FINALLY getting around to getting it on the road. The tires have aprox 1,200 miles & are rotten, new pistons & liners (K-S), & valve job with about 800 miles on them. It probably needs a LOT of new seals, gaskets, etc. What do/does anyone recomend??

Nice car, corne.

I would go through all the rubber parts and replace them if they look at all dried out/cracking. Fuel system lines especially. Here's the link to the 356 forum here Porsche 356 Technical Forum - Pelican Parts Technical BBS I'm sure there are other useful 356 forums, too.

First of all, welcome. Beautiful car. I just sold a 1962 Notchback (looks like your car with the hardtop on!) and I can recommend a few things:

- Get in touch with Speeder (real name is Denis) via private message. Denis rebuilt my 356 and did a great job. He can point you in the right direction. Plus you live in the right part of the country for 356s!

- Home The 356 Registry is an excellent source of technical data, but you have to pay, I think, $15 a year to be a member and access the data. Well worth it in my opinion. The forums there are also packed with smart 356 folks willing to help.

Again, welcome.
