Just Another Lost Pistol
Tillamook gun owner apologizes for movie theater scare, just wanted to see 'The Hobbit' | OregonLive.com
Thoughts on this? The gun owner's actions? The police response? I kind of feel - it was stupid (to lose it, then not to immediately return to the theatre), it was also innocent (no bad intent), but there's no room for stupidity where CCW is concerned. I think nothing will come of the charges (probably doesn't meet the test for reckless endangerment, I doubt the DA will even file), but he won't get his concealed handgun license (CHL we call it here) license back for a good while, if ever. With concealed carry pistols ever smaller and lighter, holsters getting more minimalist, and every Tom Dick and Harry getting a CCW now, I think this sort of thing is bound to be happening more often. I'm going to start checking under movie seats - would like me a nice Beretta.

This should be grounds for losing your CHL. And for a similar situation with a Police Officer, it should be grounds for dismissal.

An apology, how nice.
The kids who didn't pick up the gun showed more intelligence and common sense than the gun owner. He should be praising them for not picking up the gun and playing with it instead of whining about what people think of him.

Amen to that. Stupidity like this reflects badly on the responsible majority.

Nonsense. Can't have 1/3 of the nation's police officers tossed out on their collective ear.

G'day!
|
Once again America shows it's stupidity and why we are still experiencing confusion about gun ownership and safety.
What SHOULD be coming out of this story is the moral to the story - how to be a responsible gun owner. Instead we are trying to play the blame game - once again. The word "gun" is too sexy to pass up for the media. The deed is done - let's focus on a lesson to learn. gshase has it right on post #3: I carry and always (PAT) my weapon when I stand up. He should have Flown back to the movie house. We have bigger fish to fry than this guy's breach of proper gun management.

Poor gun management.

That might be poor decision making also.

Nostril and RWebb. You are both hired and I'll keep you by my side all the time since you seem to be able to predict when an active shooter will, or will not appear.
If I went to the movies and I had the thought that I might not need my CCW weapon in July 2012 in an Aurora, CO movie, I'd be thinking twice the rest of my life. Those of us who screen and receive a CCW usually carry all-the-time because we do not have a crystal ball to tell us when an active shooter will go into action. I certainly do not want to be without my little backup friends and be facing an assailant and think to myself, "Damn, I wish I had my gun!" |

you are correct, snipper -- an active shooter is HIGHLY unlikely to appear in a small town, noted for dairy cows, elk and cheese
of course it IS possible - and he might also get hit by an asteroid -- or maybe he could shoot the plummeting rock out of the sky first |

Difference is: no chance against the astroid, but a fighting chance against a perp is possible if you're packing.
Gun carryer: check Victim: nope One of my Soldiers was burried today. Shot to death in a small town while in MI. |

I have no issues with a licensed person carrying 24x7. But can't do it negligently. Carrying a gun is a huge responsibility.
