Handi-cap and permit only parking at work...

So what's the rule at your place of work for handi-cap and permit parking? With parking at a premium, is it dog eat dog screw em and park where you want? Especially, 2nd and 3rd shift?

I see this nightly and report it to security often (guess I'm a snitch, but someone has to do it).

It just pisses me off, as we could all do it, but some have morals, whereas others don't I guess. Maybe a culture thing too, of self-entitlement?

By the way, our area and parking lots or patrolled by our own armed security and the airport police, both with authority to ticket. You can get speeding ticket, here in the campus and parking lots as well!

Thoughts?

Here in California, at least Sacramento County, handicapped parking tickets are expensive, and you can get them anywhere. There used to be a private security firm that was contracted to write the tickets. They were absolutely rabid about it - if you so much as cast a shadow over a handicapped spot, you were as good as dead.

I don't know if it's still the same contractor, but they even go through residential neighborhoods writing tickets. A buddy of mine got one for being illegally parked while he was unloading his race car in his driveway, and my next door neighbor got one for having his POS truck parked on the street too long. I don't fully understand that one, as it had current registration, but he was hopping mad about it.

With respect to 'permit' parking at my office, the security contractor will write you a ticket, but it's not worth the paper it's printed on.

Last time I talked to security, they said they write tickets and HR does nothing with them because everyone cried about it. HR had them stop booting and towing as well due to complaints.

I don't ever park in handicapped spots. If someone does that's not handicapped, then they deserve to be punished.

The solution is for a handicapped person to file a law suit in federal court under the ADA. The enormous fines WILL get their attention.

'Someone' might also contact the local TV station/newspaper for an expose.

My office has more handicapped parking than some local strip malls. It is enforced by local PD and it's no joke.

Send an email to HR asking them when the parking spots are going to be enforced. No reply or an unsat reply then sent it up the chain of command.

They deserve to be given a reason to park there, if you catch my drift

There is an app you can get for a smart phone called Park Mobility. You take three photos of the car and upload them to the site. It knows the address and location of your photos and they contact the police and at a minimum they write a nasty letter to the car owner. They can write a ticket.

Just walked by and it's packed with cars again. Just part of the lowly mentality here.

JoeBob - handi-cap spots are based on other factors, not use.

No cameras [or cell phones (used every day by everyone ), but that's a topic for another day] allowed to be used on premises w/o a permit.

The law and policy can differ. If a facility is underserved for handicap parking it can be adjusted AFTER it was built. I it can also adjusted upwards.

Policy deals with the real world. A P&P manual can be five times the volume of the actual rule.....trust me, I was with the government.

I work at a small company. Nobody in the company is handicapped. The whole first row in the parking lot is handicapped parking. Yet nobody ever parks there, including the night shift or anyone coming by during off hours, even if they have to unlock the building and know they will be the only ones in there.

Yes, I like my company.

There is a local grocery store here in town that has 'reserved parking' for:
Parents with children and Hybrid vehicles.

I park in them.

Disabled, no.

They are not 'real' enforceable spaces.

Just some weird statement.

Seriously, what's the matter with you? Why are you deliberately parking in spaces reserved for other people?

And, why do you have no respect for property rights?
