I saw 600 rounds of .223 for $419 a few weeks ago where I bought my AR15. Didn't buy any.

The Herter's .223 that I bought at Cabelas was $6.99/20. The PMAGs were $17.99. That seems pretty close to pre-craziness pricing.

I wonder if the ammo manufacturers dropped making .22 so they could concentrate on the more profitable stuff. It would make sense. I don't think there was much profit in .22 at $7.99 for 500. That was pre-2009 pricing at the local sporting goods store.

I was at the range last night. They had no .380, 9mm, nor .45 ammo at all. They said they are having a hard time finding any and sells as fast as they get it.
I stopped by the LGS and they had .380 but would only sell one box to a customer. It was a fair price, so I bought one.
I so bought the one 50 rd box of Speer 124gr +p hollow points for $25. That is actually cheaper than I have seen for a box of 9mm range ammo at some other places.

sgammo and others have plenty of centerfire stuff, at close to pre-panic prices.

Rimfire is still hurting, even target grade stuff.

Helped a buddy of mine out last night - he's got a gunshop wtih several 22 rifles on the shelf and no 22lr ammo. Took him 1100 rounds from my stash, we'll work it out down the road.

A new gun & sport store opened in town today. They had a good stock of 5.56, however I was not impressed with the price.
Before "the panic" I was paying about $450 for 900 rounds.

Just got a call from Cabellas that my 800 rounds of .223 that I ordered in December will be here in two weeks. I asked to double my order and they said no can do.

just lighten up on your shooting for a year when the world doesn't end or they don't ban ammo......and the morons realizes they will never shoot 10000 rds of anything...the fire sales will begin.......then you can buy your 500 rds of 22 you might go thru in a year and maybe a few 100 rds of various other calibers you probably would never shoot over 5 years.

Life will just go back to normal where all the 2000 dollar guns everyone bought in a panic will start collecting dust under the bed again.

I usually shoot 6k rounds a year in training and competition. This year only three due to the shortage...I guess I'm a moron.

The pic that I posted was of the display in Palmetto State Armory, taken yesterday.
.67 cents per round.

the storage is because non shooting gun owners are buying ammo they will never used.......... A moron is someone who really never intended to buy a AR15 and then buys one at peak demand along with 1000rds at top prices...shoots 100 200 rds ,maybe, and the gun goes under the bed. Of course the real moron is the guy who buys 5000 rds for some WW2 bolt action...shoots 20 rds off shoulder then realizes this isn't that much fun as his shoulder swells up to the sizes of a grapefruit.

before the imaginary demand for ammo and guns, the real shooters had what they needed and would actually use.........and you will again in about 6 months to a year..........so stop calling yourself a moron and stop paying ridiculous prices.

Ammo prices........

Local gun shop here has .223 for $450 a case of 1000 rds. AR mags are back in stock at less than $20 for a 30 round mag and the shops have a good selection of AR15 type rifles in stock at pre craziness prices. Can get at least some of just about any caliber or gauge except for .22 rf. The local shops that have been able to get a little rimfire ammo sell it one or two boxes at a time. For some reason, shotgun shells never seemed to be hard to find in any gauge.

if someone's shoulder swells up from 20 rds of WW2 ammo, he'de probably should learn how to properly shoulder his rifle... I mean, 30-06 bolt has a bit more kick then 308 and a lot more then .223, but that don't stop me from putting down 50 pills down range per session whenever i go shooting.. And i often shoot it with just a t-shirt, steel butt plate.. no padding.. No bruises

either that or he's got some kind of medical issue that makes that somebody prone to bruising... WW2 ammo ain't .338 LM now is it?!?

I would never pay over $.35/round for 5.56. I generally only shoot what I load. But even bullets, powder, and primers are short here still. I have just enough components to get through this year's rifle matches. Not enough to get through IDPA with my 9mm so switching to 10mm which I have 2K-worth of bullets. It's a pain...

Lots of cheap steel stuff out there like Tula/Wolf/Herters .223 for <$0.40/rd. But its steel cased, can't reload, and the bi-metal projectiles are a no-no in outdoor ranges in SoCal due to the fire risk.

PSA had some brass Prvi 5.56 for $7.79/20 today. Not sure how long that lasted.

It's nice to see brass getting under $0.40/rd.

DANG you are a bad ass regular shooter we get it...you are the 1 in a 1000 gun owners who actually shoots more than 50 rds a year, but thats not the point!.......the shortage in the US is created by knuckle heads who own some guns but never shoot...this is the vast majority of gun owners.... many of these guys and some who just recently brought guns in this recent panic are driving the shortages. they are buying 100's to 1000s of rds of ammo they will never use.

I been shooting my whole life, as instructor, competitor, hunting, and the military. And we all understand you are super shooter, but any bolt action rifle of military caliber is going to knock hell out of a inexperience shooter......... I've seen many take 5 rds off a 8mm or 30.06 and just set it down and say that is enough....you don't need a special medical condition.
