Big luxury car with a big V8 and comfy seats. Long wheelbase insures a good ride, big V8 gives you plenty of power but quiet loafing at interstate speeds, and comfy seats prevent back pain. My two best are my current Audi S8 and my past Jaguar XJR. Both are comfortable, quiet, and effortless on the highway.

To answer my own question:
1. A loaded Toyota Camry(I really do not want to break down) or as much Ford as I can get for under $50k - Ford Fusion full loaded? 2. As much Jaguar sedan for under $100k as possible. Lexus sedan would be more reliable but less fun. 3. A Bentley turbo sedan. At this price point reliability is not paramount. I just want to have fun...... ![]() ![]() |

It depends on the road. If you want the fastest way across the interstate is the way. If you want a good drive and have time use back roads. Different cars for different roads.
Another big consideration is time of year. In the winter you will want a 4 WD car for sure.

A dedicated Car Guy friend of mine once told me the big Infinity (2nd generation) was the most under rated long distance cruiser he had ever owned. He said his biggest problem was ".....keeping my foot out of it. The darned thing just wants to go. Thank God for cruise control."
There are any number of vehicles perfectly capable of doing the job for you. What do you value highest: comfort, economy, luggage room, stealth? Pick yer poison. Best Les

A story
On 9-11-01 Portland, Oregon megadealer Ron Tonkin found himself in Washington D.C. for an auto dealer's convention. He was the then President of that group. With all flights cancelled, the nation in a panic, he and his wife wanted to go home to Oregon.
Of course, he bought a car and drove home. This guy owned dealerships selling everything...from econoboxes to Ferrari & Maserati trhrough his "Grand Turisimo" dealership. He could easily afford to buy any car he wanted. So what did he buy for he & his wife to go across the USA? A Toyota Camry. Thinking about it, I understood the why of his selection...low key and anonymous. As for myself...I find the seats in my '09 Bullitt Mustang to be amazingly comfortable. They are the same seats as used in the GT500 of that year. Leather, adjustable lumbar support, etc. Fast enough, good luggage space, decent gas mileage (I've averaged 21 mpg since new), easy to drive. It wouldn't be a bad cross country ride at all. I 'm not surprised that many here chose one luxobarge or another. A big Lexus also came to my mind.
