I used to drink lots of it...almost like drinking water. No more.
Too many carbs - I'm diabetic. I drink Almond milk now...and not much of that either.

I haven't drank milk since I was big enough to tell my mom I didn't want it. She said I didn't even like it as a baby. Butter, Ice Creme, Yogurt, all that's fine, just no milk. Not even on cereal.

I've almost totally given it up too. On cereal, I like freshly-made almond milk. It helps to be married to a vegan.

Now in 993 land ...

As a kid I used to drink fresh milk - so fresh it was still lukewarm from the cow. That was heaven. Now it is out of a carton, unfortunately and I don't drink it as a beverage. Main consumption is in my oatmeal 5 days / week and in my coffee at home. About a cup a day. (1% organic). Also use it for cooking to some extent (cream sauce and stuff like rice pudding). I have started to eat fat free Greek yoghurt more frequently for the protein. I still tolerate it all fine but buy organic only due to kids in the household. I am not an all-organic guy, but if it comes to milk and meat, I am a firm believer.
Lactose tolerance wasn't something man had from day one. I read that Northern Europeans are most tolerant due to conditioning. Their farming culture made it a big advantage to tolerate milk. Kids that could take it survived at a much higher rate, making it a genetically selected trait. To follow one of the main rules in staying trim (don't drink your calories) I don't think a grownup should drink milk in large quantity. Of course I still do drink some of my calories only with beer - all other drinks are zero calories. And back to the OP - try organic to see if any of the hormones / pesticides / herbicides may have a play in your tolerance level. If the organic doesn't cut it, switch to a plant based / lactose free version as many other old geezers here have done already. ![]() G |

Yes.
Crushed ice and milk. I had the best milk in my life at Disneyland in 1989. It was at the Restaurant at the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. It was delicious.

Milk is awesome. Yes drink it regularly. In fact cows in general are the best critters on the planet. Between milk, beef, & leather what other animal serves man as well?

Most milk is BGH in white water nowadays, but the organics still have "taste" which is the micro-bacteria and other components the body can actually utilize. That's the point of drinking it.
Same with corn vs grass fed beef. There's a company in SE Mich, Calders Dairy, that still delivers the real stuff to the doorstep and it is like heaven: Dairy-Products Last edited by john70t; 01-17-2013 at 06:23 PM.. |

I don't drink much milk. No particular reason. When we do have milk around, it's organic. Organic milk does taste a bit funny, and there's a reason for that. It's ultra-pasteurized which is a different process from the way most non-organic milk is pasteurized. Ultra-pasteurization does change the flavor. We can legally buy raw, from the cow unpasteurized, unhomogenized milk in Texas. That's REALLY good, but to buy it we'd have to make a special trip to get it on Sat mornings, so we don't get it any more.

I can drink cow's milk fine, and like it, didn't grow up drinking all that much of it. Being Chinese, milk wasn't a mainstay at home, although none of my family is lactose intolerant AFAIK. Never tried soy milk, have drunk goat's milk and didn't like it much (in France).
