This raises another question. What to do when you collect someone elses collection?

Tenants abandond stuff that might be better than giving away or chucked to the dumpster. I have boxes of an old beer can collection all left behind and not wanted. Interesting to look at but don't want to display them. Perhaps recycle as in sell them on Fleabay and with enough made to cover a bar tab??

Watches, knifes, guitars, all of which has been halted since getting married (a good thing, see sammys post about collecting money)...

Still collect books because they are cheap and easy to hide from the wife

Back in the 1950's!

When my father had a garage for gas sales and car repairs in the north of UK, that was the kind of item that was on his desk. He was a smoker. The distributor cap that held pens and pencils was also on his disk. Thanks for the memories.

Also the calendars with scantily clad women.

Paul, can you sent a picture of the one you've got? I truly appreciate the offer, but I may already have it.

In the annals of, "it looked good in the barn", please see above.

It says Goodyear, 7.50 - 16 Implement on both side. It is really shopworn, but yours nonetheless if you don't have it. If I may, there are some *****in' diamonds in relief around the circumference of the ashtray

After viewing your collection and then my paltry offering, please put me on ignore.

IMO Too many people see money as only something to get rid of. Something that must be spent to be used.
I could never understand that.

Having money means having freedom and security and power. Spending money means giving up those things.
Knowing that I could pay off my house or buy almost anything or go anywhere or retire anytime I want is freedom.
Knowing that I dont have to worry about being able to pay bills even if something bad happened is security.
knowing that I could tell the boss to go take a hike if I wanted to without worrying about not getting a paycheck is power.

Buying stuff provides a cheap and temporary thrill but it's fleeting.
Saving money instead of spending it lasts a long time and the more you save the better it feels.
Plus the longer you save and the more you save, the faster the pile builds up.
Over the past year or so my 401ks have increased more than what I earned from my salary.
That's a good feeling.
Am I the only one envisioning this?

It's actually a relatively rare one, but I have one in good condition. Thanks! I really appreciate it.

I had no idea ashtrays were so collectible. It came from my mother's eclectic antique collection. I assume my ashtray isn't rare cause a quick search found one for $20. Although mine is made in Canada.

Here's a piece from my Native collection. A half of bowl of a pipe - used. Grid is 1 cm. I found it (and other stone tools etc) while following a sod cutter in the summer of '73. Seneca tribe (Iroquois) & pre-1600. You can see a groove where it had a hollow wooden stem.
