Coincedence?

My wife's Visa card came in with a charge of $24.01 from 12/23/12, the charge was at my Tastee Freez. I carry this card with me and really thought I had used it to do a test on our system by mistake.

The more I thought about this the more I didn't believe I would have done this. Well I went through the CC receipts for that day and found the charge was for someone else, but the last 4 digits of there card where the same as my wife's card. I called my CC processor and got the information, and all the numbers on her card match the card that was swiped on our register, everything but the name.

What are the odds that someone stole my wife's CC information put it on the magnetic strip of a card and then just happened to use it in my restaurant?

2435 3456 1033 2487 to 1?

On a side note, that's messed up. Can you trace the name? Any more useage from that card?

If someone legitimately stole your wife's credit card, $24.01 would be the least of your concerns.

We gave everything to Visa, the local PD is not interested in CC crime.

I Googled the name and found 4 people in Virginia with that name.

My wife and I live over an hours drive away from the restaurant.

That was the only fraudulent charge on the card.

report & challenge the charge - call the Tastee-Freeze owner and give him/her a heads up

it is easy to get a mag card reader & criminals often do that

also, start eating real ice cream instead of that stuff!

Wait, so someone might have duped your wife's card and then came to your business and used it?

That's ballsy and messed up if so!

25 or 6 to 4.

Seems like it might just be a mistake on the card reader or something. Was your wife working the register and had the card reader near her purse?

My wife does not work in the restaurant (that's how I plan to stay married).

RWebb, you ever tried Tastee Freez soft serve? 5% butterfat and pretty good stuff.

Quirky thing is someone stole $24 fom your wife but you sorta got it back at the store. All you're out is the product they got away with. lol

I had a credit card number for my debit card scammed somehow. I noticed a charge of 18 or so bucks. I called the credit union and they instantly shut down the card. I told them I had a few legit charges in the last few days. They allowed those to go through but nothing else. They refunded the charge, and issued me a new card on the spot.

They pressed charges and later I found out an employee at a local restaurant had sold the number. He got to visit the Grey bar hotel. He was found to have sold many CC numbers to some criminal organization.

Yeah, be thankful it wasn't more.
My wife had something similar happen. I blew my top.
I hate using the card because of that kind crime.

Guess that's world we live in, I try to use cash whenever I can.

I thought I caught a thief last month, turned out to be a subscription to Performance Bike I didn't know I still had. Often they do a small charge to see if you notice & then comes the $1200 Dell, at least that happened to me a few years ago.

Could it be an employee?

I've tried Tastee Freez soft serve - it is pretty low on the ice cream totem pole. The best soft serve I ever had was some home cooked brew in the late 1970's in (surprisingly) Cleveburg Heights at some sort of vegetarian/religious food place.

I'm thinking this isn't an ice cream thread.

Do you know and completely trust the employees that have access to credit card info at your store. Just saying, maybe it's an inside job of selling CC info to the highest bidders.
