Valentines Day Poll... why do you do it?
Valentines Day Poll... why do you do it? If you give the standard card, candy, dinner, jewelry, etc for Valentines Day, why?

I do it because it makes my wife happy. My happy wife makes me happy. I like to be happy. It is a win - win situation. Pretty roses delivered to her office for the other women to be jealous about & I get to go eat at a great restaurant. No down side.

I might be in trouble this year. She's working today, so I'm sending her chocolate flowers at work, attached to a balloon that says You Have A Classy Chassis. I'm not sure what her reaction will be, so my backup safety plan is dinner and drinks by the water, and then hopefully back home for a little something something.
Mid-50s, so we're well into the interesting years. 'Nough said. ![]() _ |

I allow her to sleep inside. What more does she want? If she's really good, she could use the shower inside also.

Other here...
My wife and I agreed long ago to stop using Valentines day as a day of appreciation marked with buying stuff. Oh, we did the typical throughout the time we were dating, engaged and the first couple of years of our marriage and that was fine. It's much more meaningful when I come home with flowers randomly or she leaves a note for me. Just two nights ago we were discussing this as we were listening to my youngest trying to decide what to buy her boyfriend for Valentines. The fact that we are comfortable not having the need to either give or receive on a particular day tells us both that we are on the right track with each other. She doesn't want for gifts of jewelry.. Most often than not I come home from a working trip with a little trinket unique to the area. I still give my girls a little something each year. They will always be my babies I guess.

Nothing material exchanged and definitely staying out of restaurants on Valentine's day. We go out for dinners and don't hesitate to get each other nice things throughout the year.
The worst for me is the flower deliveries to the women's work. Serious pissing match IMHO. YMMV! G |

Hey, she even gets me a card, and a can of Cashews. I got her a small box of chocolate and a card. We will wait until tomorrow for the dinner to avoid the V Day crowds.

I voted other. I love and adore my wife, but we both agree that this holiday is an excuse to raise the prices and sell really bad flowers.
Today she recieved 2 cards, 2 sweetheart rose plants and some Swiss chocolate. We'll make dinner at home. We'll do dinner next week to avoid the crowds tonight and this weekend.

We enjoy going out on what my wife likes to call "Date night" once or twice a week, which is partly due to our not wanting to cook every night. We also avoid going out to eat on most holidays and Valentines day is no exception (we live in a resort town that is very crowded over most holidays). The random note or gesture certainly means a little more because you know no commercial or social expectation prompted it and that the gesture was an expression of genuine feelings. All that being said, she will still probably get a card from the store and a big kiss.

Women need to feel loved and on V-day they need it just a little bit more. Buying stuff doesn't get it done anymore so I will usually make a nice dinner with a special "paired" wine, fresh dessert from our local bakery and we will enjoy our evening together far from the frantic hoards.
