I too was wondering how much they make for such a risky job. Found my answer there:

What Does a Transmission Tower Climber Get Paid? | Chron.com

$67k/yr for the top 10% really doesn't seem that much at all...

Stairway to heaven......

maybe when I was 20, but the ole legs would give out long before the steps did! One of the hardest things that I have ever done was the first time I rappelled (sp?) into a very deep black hole in a cave. Kicking off the top with your life depending on a rope took everything I had and that bad boy was only 3-400 feet deep! Not being able to see the bottom didn't help much!

I only made it for the first 45 seconds. Had to turn it off. Does not look like fun at all. But I love to fly. Go figure.

See my link; The national average is $21.27/hr, the top earners make 32.53/hr.

I am a pilot and a paratrooper and heights don't scare me while I'm moving but stationary heights do. This is somewhat common for all pilots. A lot of them that I have met are scared of stationary heights as well.

I cant comprehend how people get into a mindset to climb towers. Additionally, here's a picture of Dean Potter slacklining at Taft Point.

I've been to Taft Point and got freaked looking over the edge. It's about a 3000 foot drop.

^^^ That is crazy on a whole different level than being on a pole with all four paws attached to rungs. The only thing gnarly about the tower climbing is the height. If it was 20 feet off the ground, anyone on this board could do it. Walking on a rope in the wind is a different story.
