I've seen some concrete floors with aggregate that have had the top 1/8" or so "polished" down and then sealed. They look very nice when done.

Done the epoxy thing professionally twice....full meal deal, shot blasting, surface prepped. In both cases the lifespan was under 4 years.

Supporting concrete is 30 years old, no cracks, higher than normal MPA, zero issues.

Never do epoxy again - next step is ceramic tile....

One friends house I went to had a cool garage. They added a concrete stain to the mixture, then they stamped it with a interesting pattern. It really looks cool. It is textured enough that a floor jack would be a pain but this guy is as likely to use a floor jack than a rocket engine. It was a 8 car garage with a few nice toys parked it there.

My garage is just standard concrete. I am thinking of the snap together plastic squares. Maybe someday.

I like the idea of replaceable panels over concrete but, alas, I have simple smoothly finished concrete in my garage and shop.

My bare garage floor needs some love. Unfortunately, other projects have priority.

The shop I'm restoring my truck in has 50 year old 8" asbestos tile. The Porsches live on concrete.

Concrete without any sealer on it for now. Need to put some epoxy down to prevent moisture.

I would never advise anyone to store a car they care about for long term on just untreated concrete or it will eventually lead to rust. If you cannot put epoxy down, I've been told to put either thick mil plastic or wood (cheap luan aka subfloor) as a barrier.

Not only is my garage floor concrete with grease stains, it's also got a good sized crack in it thanks to a root from an elm tree I removed more than a decade ago. The root appears to not know that its tree is defunct. Crack continues to widen, if at a glacial pace, as the root continues to grow.

Happy to do so.

Garage is about 660 sq. ft, dry and heated. Concrete (first time) had been aged for about 15 years and was in good condition, no spalling or cracks.

Thought I would get a good epoxy coating. Hired the best I could find, paid for their premium product and installation, they shot beaded the entire floor, applied the two part epoxy and it looked gorgeous for about 2 years.

Then it started to get small pits from where the cars parked, not so much from heat as from the small bits of gravel chipped tiny divots out. The water dripping (particularly in winter when it was salty) apparently went through the epoxy and broke the bond betweent the coating and concrete. First real evidence is when significantly sized pieces (like 2 inch diameter) began flaking off, leaving exposed concrete. Once that process started, in less than a season I had major flaking and damage.

OK, round 2. First of all get rid of the water problem. Brought in an expert who does the coatings on large parkades, cement repair for commercial warehouses and so forth. He applied a floor levelling compound (some fancy german brand Aardex I think), levelled it quite well. he then applied the proper epoxy - guaranteed for the bond to last forever. Well, apparently forever has arrived in 4 years. Cracks are beginnign to show and the same process is repeating itself. It is better than round 2 so far as no major flakes have appeared, but I fear the end is nigh....

Next time tile....I'll do it myself only question is whether I need to remove the epoxy or just sand it down to give tooth to the thinset.

I didn't see an option for "epoxy floor kit sitting in a box on the grease stained floor".

Another vote for epoxy here. However, if you do choose epoxy, choose the right epoxy - 100% solids. No VOCs, no water. Urethane clear on top. Will last longer than your house and stand up to anything you can throw at it.

My self-applied Rustoleum Epoxy has been great.

It's been 15 years.

The Porsche side looks great, the daily driver side is only now beginning to come off in a few small places. I plan to rent a floor sander to rough it up and re-apply.

my garage floor is ceramic tile (installed by PO) and is the most dangerous thing in my house

I have been forced to cover it with carpet until I eventually get the rubber squares

Offcamber - that pattern looks nice, but easy to loose a small washer, nut, etc. in the "business"

Scott's looks nice; not so busy or likely to hide parts; but dark - I'd think a light color would be better to reflect light

I don't have an epoxy kit sitting on my stained and somewhat greasy concrete - the floor is just not much of a priority for me. Rubber tiles might be nice to take out some of the chill, but I just toss down old cardboard boxes when I work on the car...

Looks like ~~ 56% of us feel similarly
