Celebrating St. Patrick's day this year?

How many will celebrate St. Patrick's day this year?

If yes, how will you do it?

We've been invited over to a friends house tonight to celebrate with maybe 30 others. We are bringing wine, whisky, Guinness, stew, soda bread, and Irish tunes.

Also, it has been reported that people feel obligated to drink over this holiday. Some who are complete teetotalers the rest of the year will drink alcohol on St. Patrick's day. And it is reported that many will borrow money, or use credit to purchase alcohol. It is certainly a boon for our liquor merchants.

I usually wear mostly green, but I always wear something orange for William's sake.

With a last name of Kelly, and my kids named Meeghan Mae, and Sean Patrick, I will have to lift a glass of ale tonight to go along with my Potato soup and Rueben sandwich.

The boys in the apartment on the 1st floor started drinking and playing loud music by 10 am. I live on the 3rd floor. They left to go to the parade, They will be back to finish off their celebrating. I can hardly wait until they come back.

This day is such a poor excuse to get drunk in Chicago.

also Scots - but the ancestors claim Scotch-Irish (which perhaps meant not just what they drank but who they drilled)

Not only do I not celebrate St. Patrick's day (who's name was Maewyn Succat, by the way.. not "Patrick" anything)
I despise it.

I'm a Scot, but that's not why.

I am of Scottish ancestry.
My wife is Irish; immigrated to America in 2003.

I worked rather than participate in the revelry, because my work is much more important to me than drunken partying. Plus, I harbor no malice toward snakes.

I played for a couple of hours at the Bistro. They had some decorations (shamrocks, "Happy St. Pat's Day" on the door, etc. About half of the set list was Celtic, ranging from Danny Boy, Rocky Road To Dublin, Star Of The County Down and Wild Rover to Mist Covered Mountains of Home. Folks seemed to have a good time, but it was really just a supper crowd. No one was 'celebrating St. Patrick's Day.

All this from a fellow of Yorkshire descent. Ironic, don't you think?

Patrick also wasn't Irish, but why do you not celebrate his day?

Celebrating St. Patrick's day this year?

I have been doing research on my family tree. 6 generations back on my mother's side there was a couple that were from Dublin that moved to the USA. So there is a tiny bit of Irish in me. I do like beer but I have never ever wanted to drink a green beer. I don't plan on drinking a green beer.

Woke up at 3:30am so that I could walk the LA Marathon yesterday. Knocked off 23 minutes from last year's time which is not bad for a St Patty's Day. Came home, watched TV, had a cupcake and went to bed.
