The best driver?
Here's a documentary on Jim Clark...his name would definitely come up in any bar conversation on who was actually the best. This a link to part one. Six parts in all, the links to the other parts will show on the right after you click on this one.

The best?
Fangio, probably, maybe Moss. Nah, Fangio. Five world championships. Four teams. A record that stood for 46 years. ![]()

Fangio, Nuvolari, Senna, Clark, Schumi, Andretti (yes, but he was so versatile)
and for sheer car control, Gilles

Clark won more GP's than Fangio...Clark also won the Indy 500....may the bar conversations always continue.

Earnhardt Sr. It's not even close enough to compare another.

Top NASCAR drivers would be a different thread. Earnhardt never drove anything that vaguely resembled a Formula one car in his life.

Moss at age 25 would certainly be in the running for me. I ran across this article in the doctor's office a while back and was blown away.
Read it... it's not that long. If you're not impressed, you're not thinking clearly. It takes a lot more skill to do this than to run on a track: 1955 Mille Miglia: The Most Epic Drive. Ever. - Motor Trend Classic 1955 Mille Miglia: The Most Epic Drive. Ever. 1000 Miles on Italian Roads in 10 hours, 7 minutes Excerpts: "Entering the main street of Padova at 150mph we braked for the right-angle at the end, and suddenly I realized that Moss was beginning to work furiously on the steering wheel, for we were arriving at the corner much too fast and it seemed doubtful whether we could stop in time. I sat fascinated, watching Moss working away to keep control, and was so intrigued to follow his every action and live every inch of the way with him, that I completely forgot to be scared." "The grimy, dented 3000SLR came around the final corner of the Mille Miglia in downtown Brescia with Moss holding it in a 100 mph powerslide to cross the finish line precisely 10 hours, 7 minutes, and 48 seconds after he had rolled the car off the starting ramp and powered down the road to Verona. Moss and Jenkinson had averaged almost 98 mph for 1000 miles, shattering the existing record by almost 10 mph."

Although not the same game, but to me one of the best drivers all around must be Sébastien Loeb. You don´t win 9 WRC in a row by chance.

Paul, I watched the first part (the link you posted) and I saved it to my favorites where it will remain. I will watch the rest tomorrow. I must say, the openness of his emotions as he talks with interviewers is really quite moving...
