Although interesting there are gaping holes in that story.

I don't believe it. It smacks of revisionist BS...

There was a Nazi party member saving up to 1/4 million Chinese in Nanking, using the swastika flag on rooftops to prevent being bombed.

There was a book review in the WSJ about the third volume of the definitive "War in Europe" trilogy of books by a guy named Atkinson, I think. Anyway, there are a number of anecdotes in the book that I'd never heard, one of which is that, as French colonials worked their way across Europe with the allies, they raped and pillaged just as much as any Russian.

Have Tom Hanks do it. His work is best for this era if you ask me. $.02

I find it very difficult to believe that battle hardened US soldiers would fight along side the Germans.

In other words.... A German soldier carrying a rifle in the presence of US GIs would have a life expectancy measured in seconds.

End of story.

But it's an engaging tale non the less.

Perhaps, but stranger things have happened. I don't see what's revisionist about it.

Plus, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend". It was anti-Nazi Wehrmacht soldiers, and the Wehrmacht didn't think very highly of the SS.

I agree that anything is possible in war but ask yourself how "likely" is this story to be true.

There were many Germans who were anti Hitler, Nazi, SS, whatever. Regrettably many of them found out how costly their beliefs could be.

Agree. if it were truth, it would have been all over the history books, nevertheless interesting. I love to see it instead of just reading about it. I like the way the made Band of Brothers, Phil Robinson told me that they did a lot of research and factual work before the started shooting. Tjhey wanted it as realistic as possible. I wish there were more gore and such to make the fighting more realistic like Private Ryan.
