That sucks - religious, spiritual, or not...I hope everyone here sends prayers and/or whatever positive vibes they can for his recovery.

I just talked with him a short while about his car, he seems a very unassuming and genuinely nice fellow - this is so tragic and it makes my stomach hurt.

Thoughts and prayers to him and the family.

A member in need

Maybe if we could get George's email we could paypal a few dollars to show our support from the 911 community I would be happy to pledge $50.00 for the cause.

This just terrible...accidents can and do happen pretty quickly when someone is just out having a good time with their sports car or MC...there but for the grace of god and all that. I sure hope that he recovers. He will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Kind words Baz. My thoughts too are with the gentleman and family.

Ps. Don't even want to see those photo's. My reminder of days of past.

Really sorry to see. An early car sure isn't the best thing to get in a wreck in either. Does it at least have shoulder belts already?

Anyone know the location and the cause of the accident? I don't see a turn that would have been tough to maneuver. Maybe he had an acute health issue having him go off ...

I wondered the same thing. Seems to have taken place on what appears to be a gentle curve.

Article says lap belts only.

Horrible to see, and hope he recovers well and soon.

I would like to hear details of the accident, not out of any macabre interest or anything, and only with the utmost respect. I'm always wanting to know more about the safety aspects of these early cars, and as far as I can find there's no crash test data available.

Rt 16 near the Pontook Reservoir is near an area called 16 Mile Woods. This is an area known for heavy moose activity. The article says speed was involved, but if memory serves the speed limit through there is at least 45mph on a two lane road with locals frequently above that. Not sure what time of day this happened but at this time of year moose are frequently in roadside wallows (within 20ft of the roadside) around there. The article definitely got the injuries wrong, and like Aigel, I wonder if there was a health issue or wildlife issue that caused this and not necessarily speed. The road runs along the river, which would be on the right heading north, from the position of the car, it appears he was heading south. Wishing the best for a full recovery.

Ouch. You certainly will contact the wheel / dash without shoulder belts at almost any speed of impact, which explains his severe injuries in a crash that does not look terribly dramatic in terms of the chassis damage (previous to the roof being removed).
