^^^ YES - plastic rims 4".
■Tires weigh an astounding 6lbs each!
■Tubes are equally heavy at 1lb 8oz each
■The wheels ARE terrible at 5lb 13oz for the rear and 3lb 10oz for the front

Who cares about the test riders report of a slight downhill grade and coaster brakes. But can this clown ride the near 50 lbs up it? Haha

Checked out the Trek DS1 - nice hybrid / dual sport bike - but at $540, it is pricey for what I would use it for. Will have to check so,e more bike stores and Craigslist as well...

What about Kona bikes? Found a hybrid Kona on CL near me...

It's a 2011/2012 Kona hybrid - my size (original rider is my height & weight), disc brakes w/ new pads, front shocks with lockout, lights, odo computer, bags (post and under seat), spare tires. He was selling for $600 with a hitch, helmet and shoes, I have him at $400 right now without the hitch, helment or shoes.

Good price? Or keep looking?

Kona builds a nice bike, but rember, a cheap bike from wally world won't ride very good, and you will be less likely to ride it, were as a better bike, will be more comfortable, smoother and you will be more likely ride more often.
Make sure it is properly adjusted for you as well will make a huge difference.

Byron - I don't think Walmart sells Kona bikes -- seems on ebay the prices for current used Konas range from $500 to over $2000...

$400 with the spares/lights, etc., is just fine. Make sure it rides well, no excuses. Kona is a decent brand that a REAL bike shop will service. You can buy parts for it (some wally world bike are dead-end for repairs). This should be a decent, pretty zippy bike for what you plan to do with it. Further, it is decent enough for your next level of riding. The disc brake are a nice item - you'll probably be hooked after your first long downhill. I don't recall seeing any of these with the front shock. Either it is a higher end model that I haven't seen, or it has been upgraded. 700C shocks are still pretty expensive, so if it's been upgraded, you might be getting a bargain.

Bought it & picked it up tonight! It's a Kona Dew Plus. It does have front shocks - don't know if its an upgrade - didn't see any other Dews with front shocks. Feels comfortable - but I need to raise the handlebars an inch or so. Disc brakes may take some getting used to... $400 with the lights, bags, extra tires, & pump. Will get it tuned up this week at a local bike shop.

Let's ride!

That is a very nice bike! Very nice! Springy seat post? Good job, hotshot, you did great! You might want to do yourself a favor and nut and bolt it before you take it out for a long ride. Should be mostly metric allens plus a few 10mm hex heads (and maybe size 25 torx on the disc brake bolts.)

One thing, too, Z-man, you might want to try out the cockpit for a week or two before you raise the stem even higher. The idea is to spread the load out to three points, instead of just your butt (and therefore your spine) The seating position you have right now is pretty upright as it is. (But do what you need to be comfy, the idea is to ride....!)
