Any good tips to get rid of groundhogs?

They are tearing up my yard, and they are smart. They basically live under my shed, and it is a rare opportunity when They are far enough away from it for me to get a good shot at them. I regularly see 4 big ones, but I am pretty sure there are babies also. Someone told me to put cat litter down their holes, and they will vacate. I may have to smoke them out, and try to get a shot off on them

Perhaps smoke them out, then fill the holes with gravel or concrete mix. I think they are tough to get rid of.

pipe a running lawn mower exhaust into the hole. they won't run out with the lawn mower running and kill them in place. bury holes

I have gophers, which presents pretty much the same type of problem. Not much I've done seems to make much difference, and I've tried a lot of things. Traps have been the most effective but after catching/killing a couple, more move in shortly after. One thing I've thought of trying (and hopefully some here will comment) is hooking a hose/tube up to a CO2 bottle, snaking it into one of the runs, sealing it up as best I can and turning on the gas. My thinking is they might not detect the carbon dioxide buildup in the borough and suffocate.

burn down the shed and then use an excavator to dig out the lawn until you hit bedrock - pour concrete and turn it all into a big patio and workshop slab

Tractor Supply sells large live traps for around $40 if memory serves me correct. A trap with some bait (google it) should do the trick. Catch, relocate and release in the wild.

Conibear trap chained to a stake and set right in the opening of the hole will work in urban settings where you can't shoot them..... unless you have a pet dog in the area.

A dog is a big investment in time and a big commitment...

Having said that... gophers/ground hogs don't seem to hang around anywhere a dog is present.

We have groundhogs in three plaes in our yard and we have a dog. We have used CO from the truck piped into holes for gophers and that worked well. I would think dry ice in the hole would work as well since CO2 sinks. I was thinking of trying hav-a-hart traps for the ones in the yard.

Don't do what a guy I worked with did to get rid of a fox that was bothering his chickens. He watched the fox and figured out where it's den was and when the fox went in he poured gasoline down the hole and stood back and threw a match. Well there was a big ball of flame from the hole and the fox came out on fire. It ran into his haystack which was next to the barn and the chicken coop. Haystack burnt down. Barn burnt down. Chicken coop burnt down. He got rid of the fox.

Dry ice chunks in the holes and then fill in the holes.

I tried that as well. Gave up after catching the neighbors cat 3 times. Man was it pissed!
