Powdered Ginger

Ground up ginger in a bottle is a lot more convenient than going to a store, buying ginger root, cutting it up, grinding it, yada yada...

But is it worth using? Is it legal in Cooks Country or anywhere in the entire US?

I can't imagine that dried would be as good as fresh and fresh isn't that hard to grate

Sometimes it is better to use large pieces of ginger that impart flavour to the food and can easily be picked out before serving.

I just keep a hunk (root) on the windowsill. When I need it, takes 30 sec to grate some or whack off a few slices.

Does ground black pepper taste the same as fresh?

Ground and dried ginger sucks. I have been on the lookout for some of this, but for some reason I haven't seen it in the local asian groceries.

I have fresh Basil, Sage, Oregano, Rosemary and other herbs in my garden. The difference between them and the dried stuff in a spice bottle is night and day.

My wife is pretty picky about the herbs and spices she uses for cooking. She likes this stuff... always has a variety of their products in the freezer:

Ginger | Gourmet Garden

Wife is Asian. She keeps a chunk in the freezer. Grind when needed.

She has used some that comes in a tube and you keep in the fridge. She said it was a good alternative.

Handy helpful hint for today. Ginger, I use crystalised ginger, is great for preventing sea sickness/motion sickness.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal in every states to grind someone up and use them for cooking merely because they have fair skin and red hair....
