Congratulations Zoltan! That's pretty awesome. "Just because I wanted to" is how I roll too but I wouldn't mind reading about the next chapter either

Congratulations!! If nothing else, it sounds like you've got a good career ahead of you as an OAM (Obscure Acronym Manager).

When I finished my MSEE, I continued to take courses in case I wanted to pursue a PhD. My wife decided to help me with the decision whether or not to get a PhD. She said I could either get a sailboat or work on the PhD. Guess which one I chose.

Do you have an interest in teaching?

Congrats, now get some sleep.

Thank you all for the encouraging words! I will never regret going through this, despite the sacrifices...

Keep at it -- and enjoy the journey as well -- that enriches the study experience and makes it go faster as well!

Edit:

Think long and hard about the Ph.D. Look at the salary comps, unless you're in R&D in corporate or want to be a professor in Academia, they usually don't have a very good P:E ratio.

Yep - my boss kept telling me that too - if my company ever outsources our IT operations department, they can take my job, but they can never take away my MBA! Incidentally, I was very fortunate in that my company funded a large percent of my tuition -- most companies have taken tuition reimbursement away after the economic downturn - fortunately, company didn't.

Regarding feeling lucky --- I truly believe that hard work does pay off -- granted, I won't make millions on Kayne West or Kim Kardashian (two talentless idiots seemingly made for each other), but I can't compare myself with others -- and there are plenty of down-trodden people that are far worse off than I am...

Regarding the PhD -- I agree - gotta look long and hard at that option before jumping in. BTW: My dad got his PhD at age 86. Since then, he has written a couple of books, and continues to ask himself, "What's next?" I guess that's where I got that mentality.
Incidentally, my 93 year old dad will be attending my graduation in a couple of weeks!

Congrats! Seeing this gives me encouragement that I can get through my current studies.

It may be for personal betterment, but it can come in handy down the road as well.

Congratulations! Getting my MBA was one of the best things I had done in my life. I was a fish out of water when I started grad school. At 26 when I graduated with my MBA, I was one of the youngest in my class. And with a nursing undergraduate degree, they might as well been speaking Portuguese in my finance class. But I made it and I am glad I did. It has almost doubled my salary and more importantly, proved to myself I can challenge my comfort zone and succeed. That degree helped me become more poised, more eloquent in my speech, more knowledgable in the power of networking, and helped me think in a totally different way. I think you will look back in ten years and even be more glad you did it. I don't regret one penny I spent on my graduate degree.

Congrats again. A really smart and important milestone in your life!

Tomorrow I have the day off from work (extended 4th of July weekend). I was sitting here after dinner thinking how I have the whole day off -- and can dedicate my time to my studies....

Then I realized I don't have to think that way -- and can dedicate my time to other things.... like my home office which needs to be cleaned up, as my wife has requested so many times....
