Used to patrol that area. People get way to close to the wildlife, I'm suprised that there's not more video like this or more people actually getting hurt from these close encounters. Further north the elephant seals are known to get hit on Hwy 1 when they go exploring.

What did they expect floating around in all that krill? They were hanging out in a giant bait ball....

Years ago I was wreck diving with a group in Palau. The boat driver suggested we jus hang onto a rope while he towed us to another wreck about half a mile away. This water is heavily shark infested but they don't bother you unless you thrash around or break the surface. Seemed like trolling for sharks to me so we declined the ride and got back aboard.
I would never have done what these guys did...too many Great Whites in that area too

Happened to me, snorkeling alone off Heron Island on the GBR. Sand Tiger passed perpendicular to me at about a 15 foot distance. The shark was only about 5-1/2 feet long, but I turned and swam as smoothly as I could back to shore, which can be a challenge when you're looking over your shoulder every few seconds!
The first thing that occurs to you -- at least it did to me -- is that you're out of your element and in their hunting ground. Humpbacks are only a risk because of size. Orcas and sharks, quite another thing entirely. Blackfish Official Film Site

As I've done dozens of shark dives, had a 15 foot bull shark close in, and have had a grey reef shark twitching his head at me everytime my camera strobe went off............sharks are 99.9% harmless, honestly.
I just read last night scientific data, that you're 10X more likely to be eaten alive by pigs, than bit by a shark. On Average only 10 shark attack fatalities a year, but something like 250 people are electrocuted by toasters each year. Shark attack and fear is all in your mind. Thank you JAWS for promoting killing of millions of sharks a year out of fear or shark fin soup. what a senseless waste.
