Ojai

We spent a couple days and nights in Ojai last week. I like the place, not far from Ventura so you can get out of the heat if you want to. We looked at a lot of property there, I wanted to get out of California, leave this political mess behind but the weather and lack of bugs is hard to beat. We may go there and rent for awhile before buying just to see how it goes. Gas was cheaper, who knows why, eating out was cheaper than around here, who knows why. Nice little town with some great looking old homes. And like anyplace, lots of great looking multi million dollar homes. Those people in LA have to get out of town once in awhile.

I've driven through there a few times , seems nice. Quite removed from the crush of the L A area. Good roads in the area.
I'll be interested to hear how you like it after a while.

Cheers Richard

I checked it out a couple times but the town was crawling with congregating day laborers each time. You don't see that in Dana Point.

just had dinner there a couple of weeks ago. my girlfriend loves it...of course, she's a new age hippy. the dining is nice, the lack of chain stores is nice. all-around, it's a pretty nice place.

The heat doesn't bother me, I lived in Costa Rica for years and loved it. I am worried about the winters, it gets down to freezing, not sure if I can handle that. I could end up like a turtle, not venture out for a few months.

A fellow artist friend of my wife has a lemon ranch in Santa Paula. I love it up there and have thought about trying to find something around there or Fillmore. Ojai is a bit more touristy. Actually I really want to relocate to central coast (say 100 miles either side of Pismo) but hard for me to make a living and hard for my wife to deal with galleries, etc.

I lived in Ojai about 50 years ago and really enjoyed it. It was really laid back then. Winter nmights could get cold, but it most always warmed up in the day. The grade up to the upper valley was pretty sweet and so were adventures up to Sespe Hot Springs. Never forgot some hotties relaxing in those natural "onsens." A Baja bug was the best way to get in there and even a slightly lifted VW bus was great way to get in for an extended weekend. Fine dining was also excellent. Real real estate bargains could be had back then. The hot rides of the times were 55 or 56 Chevy coupes jacked up in the rear to clear bigger meats. Less than $1500 would have bought a sweet 356 speedster. Dang, probably could have had the car and a small house for less than $20k all in. I was in high school then and my running but rough 33 Ford 3 window coupe with a V8 Olds back in Minnesota only cost me $100.

Dan
