what glue to use for bricks?

I have been doing my flower bed using retainer bricks. I tick them together by Loctite 375. Once, I needed to take couple bricks off after 2 days, I couldn't. So, I thought that this loctite 375 is great. But when it's wet, it is a different story.

Now, I have a small portion left, and want to use better glue. Does anyone know what kind of glue is better, can stand diff weather wet and dry, more permanent?

Mix up a batch of JB Weld in a 5 gallon bucket.

There are masonry adhesives that come in tubes like caulk. Any big box home improvement center should have them.

Guessing it doesn't provide the lateral sheer strength.

There's not too much uphill of that wall.
Probably doesn't need much glue except for the cap.
The interlocking joints do most of it.

Normally the cap is glued on. Use PL adhesive, or there is a strip of adhesive they sell with the brick.

I think my son used Liquid Nails glue when he built his wall.

you can get the equivalent of liquid nails in a bigger tube under the name subfloor glue. you will need a bigger type caulking gun, but the bigger tubes cost savings might offset the cost of the gun. ive used it to glue down pavers to a concrete patio, in addition to 1000's of SF of t&g plywood subfloor and it worked well...

M.D. Holloway, If you want motar, you have to have at least 1/4" or 1/2" between the bricks. I want no gap, as you can see in the pic. Also, the surface where they meet is flat. I don't think motar will make it very strong.

VINMAN, I searched on "PL masonry adhesive" and found "Loctite PL Premium 28 fl. oz. Polyurethane Construction Adhesive". Similar to what I used, except it is premium instead of 375. Is that it?

Scott, nice bed scott. For me, it took a long time. I also built couple columns with the same type of brick. The one against the wall, I want to fill it with concrete and bars inside in case any drunk driver wants to test his car.

To those who recommended PL masonry adhesive, is this what you are talking about? Loctite PL Premium 28 fl. oz. Polyurethane Construction Adhesive-1390594 at The Home Depot

We used some variety of masonry adhesive and I wasn't impressed, we've had a few issues with blocks coming apart at exposed areas like the end of a wall. Sadly I don't think there are any better options.

That "white stuff" looks like efferesence (sp?) where minerals are leached out by water. Putting a vapor barrier behind the wall will help. You can clean it with a mild solution of water and acid.

I thought the same thing especially since you can see it on the blocks sitting next to the wall.

Are you sure that's glue you're seeing?

If it is efflorescence, clean it off quick with a mild muriatic acid solution and a powerwasher. Once it accumulates for a while it becomes harder than the block. There are other chemicals available for removal of efflorescence that may work as well.

The downside is that unless conditions change, the efflorescence will keep coming back. You need block or mortar containing lots of salts and moisture problems to produce efflorescence.

Looking back, I tend to agree that what you show is efflorescence. Notice the blocks stacked to the side that haven't been glued--they have the same white marks. If that's the case, then do as suggested and clean off the residue and, if possible, put a moisture barrier between the blocks and the dirt behind.

Best stuff in the world is 3m 5200 its a marine adhesive !!! You will never put them apart!!!!

the white stuff... I do have a layer of thick rubber like behind the wall, but it's still there after the wall is wet. I tried to spray wd40 and brake cleaner on some of the blocks just to see if they work. Yes, they work for a while but eventually it came back after a rain. In summer, it's automatically gone.

No, it's not the glue.
