I had a regular 1999 996 coupe w over 200k on the chassis back in ‘07, I posted quite a bit about it here. It had lived a very tough life and the body and chassis was just bulletproof, everything worked like new, etc. No comparison to older 911 cars, it was 1000 times tougher. The driver’s seat leather was fine, just a little worn. Unbelievable cars.

There was a guy in MN. who put 574k miles on a 996 turbo w no internal engine or trans work, it sold on BAT but can’t remember price. There was also a 997 turbo w 6-speed and 117k miles that just sold there for $45k+ buyer’s fee, a good deal. I was tempted.

Yeah, that high mile 996 Turbo is now over 600K miles. Been written up a few places. They don't build 'em like the used to.

That's actually not a weird price for that car. Cabriolet, tiptronic, 100k miles,...about right.

This one looks like someone spent quite a bit of time and money on it, no affiliation.

1999 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA C2 996
VIN: WP0AA2994XS627281
Post 2002 GT2 Style Body Kit Coupe
$19,000
80,000 miles
This is one beautiful Porsche 911 C2 Carrera 996 that has been upgraded with a post 2002 GT2 complete body make-over. This car does have a rebuilt title. It had front end damage and has been completely rebuilt. This car has had approx. $26,000 in modifications done to transform it into a very unique and beautiful 911 Carrera. The exhaust note is wonderful with just enough snap and growl to let you know the engine is ready to cut loose without being offensive either inside or outside the car. The entire drive train is bone dry and leak free. The clutch and transmission shifts perfectly, the brakes are Porsche awesome, the rear tires are recent, the fronts have about 60% life left, everything works as it should, AC blows cold. It has an upgraded Pioneer touchscreen sound system with Apple CarPlay (navigation, hands free calling, bluetooth, etc.). It has a Kicker CXA600.1 amp and JL audio subwoofers. Spare tire and tool kit included.

Some additional features include:
• 6 speed manual transmission
• Air conditioning
• Power windows and seats
• Cruise control
• Sunroof
• Side windows are tinted glass, not film. The rear and front are also tinted
• 2002-2004 facelift body kit by TechArt of Germany
• Type 2 996 Turbo front bumper ($1700)
• Side skirts ($700)
• Turbo style rear bumper ($1100)
• GT3 rear deck base with GT2 wing ($1300)
• Turbo style exhaust tip ($445)
• Porsche Hella 2004 HID headlights ($3000)
• Porsche sport exhaust ($2500)
• Porsche OEM sport suspension springs ($1400)
• TechArt pedal and foot rest ($470)
• Custom paint gunmetal grey metallic ($5000 est)
• BBS E-88 3 piece forged racing wheels, 9x18 front, 12x18 rear, Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 245/40-18 front, 315/30-18 rear ($6900)
• K&N lifetime air filter ($75)
• Clutch done approx. 29K miles ago
• Cast iron front drilled brake rotors
• Recent work (at 76,000 miles) includes: complete bumper to bumper inspection, oil service with Liqui Moly, new rear brake rotors, air filter service, brake pads 13mm front and 12mm rear
• Full 80,000 mile maintenance done at George Gee Porsche 1,000 miles ago. They said everything mechanical is perfect.

The interior is in very good condition and shows signs of very light wear such as some scratches and wear on the center console, minor wear in the color on the leather (no rips, tears or cracks in the leather). Everything works exactly as it should and the ride and drive will not disappoint. The exterior is in good condition and the deep metallic paint really shows well. Overall the car looks fantastic! The drive and handling are great and with 12 inch performance tires in the rear the grip is like your glued to the road.
This is a rare and unique iconic Porsche!

The flaws are:
• Fuel filler door does not lock
• Carpet in the front trunk has been cut for the stereo amplifier

Rebuilt title, I would bet money it was hit hard in the front or maybe the front and rear, then rebuilt into a turbo-look with a facelift fenders and headlights. To me that's overpriced, you can get a clean title Aerokit 996 with similar miles for the same money.

So...Is there any truth that tiptronic cars don’t suffer from IMS and RMS problems?
I’m not familiar enough with the design of the engine. But I seem to remember hearing that...
Thinking that the wife might enjoy a 996 but I don’t think should enjoy the clutch for daily use.

At what price does this start to look good?
https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/d/seattle-2001-porsche-911-priced-for/7077315272.html

85,000 miles
Up for sale is my beloved 2001 Porsche Carrera. The body is in immaculate condition, it runs like a dream. The car was left to me by my grandfather. I need money for school so i must sell it. The car was garaged its whole life, and has had the IMS bearing upgraded. Other then that, its completely stock. Always very well maintained, oil ALWAYS changed on time. No rust on frame, ABS, 4 piston brake calipers all around. Heated racing edition Porsche seats, 6 speed manual trans w new clutch and flywheel. Asking $13,000 OBO. OEM HARDTOP INCLUDED.
Only issue is that, the vehicle has a BRANDED title. NOT because of an accident, but because my grandmother's dog ripped a whole in the soft top. Hence the reason we only use the hardtop.

Something to consider - the newest 996 is over 20 years old, time to think about replacing all the rubber coolant lines from front to back.
