LOL......they were sitting there by themselves right next to the street.

No way someone wasn't letting them go.

I know you guys are kidding around but I'm very careful not to take anything unless it is clearly out at the curb.

I have seen folks tape a piece of paper saying "Free" on stuff which always helps....and of course you have pieces of paper with "For Sale (price)".

They are a pretty good score though. ;)

Funny, related story. I am pretty sure it was someone on the board that tried the whole "free" sign by the street and had whatever it was sit there for a week. They swapped the sign for one that said "For Sale $10" and the item was gone within hours (with no exchange of money, of course).

Around here, if it's left at the curb it's fair game.
Mrs Aerkuld and I walking the dogs last week, the night before garbage pickup. We found a pile of junk left at the curb which included one of those big plastic crates for transporting dogs, like this one;

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1573172716.jpg

Finished walking the dogs, then took the car round to pick it up. It was the extra large variety and a bit bulky to carry.
Got it home and into the garage where I had some light to take it apart and clean it. Inside was a stainless steel garbage can and bunched up piece of something which turned out to be a dusty leather jacket. Thirty minutes with the leather cleaner and an almost good-as-new A2 flying jacket!

The new version of that tool appears to be a 10,000 lb K-Line load leveler.
The updated Cat branded version sells for $2660.

Free at curb - 3 outdoor patio chair cushions in almost perfect condition. They are a little sandy so will wash off before using.

I use these for my dog crates as a cushion for them to lay on. This size fits perfectly inside their crates.

Thanks, Rick! Can't beat free and my girls love their little crates so these really help. SmileWavy

More free stuff today. Couple of sling chairs - they both swivel OK but have that typical rust in the pivot assembly so probably won't make it past a year. There were 4 of them there but I only took two.

Also a 4' shop light (double tube!) and 2 wire racks - one is a shelf and the other a vertical unit - both in perfect condition and the light works too! :)

But the best part of this was the homeowner came out and we chatted a bit and he is a vet and had information on someone who could assist me with assisted living for my 96 year old mother (also a vet) - who lives just around the corner from him - which is what brought me to the neighborhood in the first place - I was headed to Mom's to help her out with something when I stopped to pick up these chairs.

This will be my grandson's XMAS present. I'll refinish it in the family race car colors (yellow with silver stripes, #44). Have 10 days to get it done.

Workbench including planes (a #7 is in the storage bin - it's worth $100 itself) and other tools still in the drawers:

Oxy/Acet torch was $35:

Home made shaper for $25:

Lincoln tombstone welder was $30:

Delta Jointer was $200:

The bench and drill press go to my son's shop to help start up his woodworking hobby. The jointer replaces my older Jet model that I gave to my son. The other equipment is for my shop. Not shown are other hand tools/power tools including a power carver, 1/4" router, drill bits, Drill Doctor bit sharpener, biscuit jointer and about a dozen layout/marking tools - all for less than $100.

Lovely looking workbench!

Snagged some as new ski pants for my son today. Normally about $160 CAD for $40.
Nice young couple, didn't try to negotiate as it kind of looked like they could use the cash.

I think what you meant to say is RIP to the husband...and the widow doesn't need them anymore!

Nice score, Mark. Good to see them go to a good cause!

Those woodworking items came from a woodworker that I know, Mickey. He's getting up in age (late 80's) and cutting back on his hobby. Let me share a short story about Mickey. Now for those of you into woodworking - and you know about Chip Carving, you'll recognize the name of Wayne Barton. Wayne "wrote the book - as they say" on Chip Carving - shown here:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1576456068.jpg

Well, my woodworking friend Mickey was interested in learning about it, so he went to Wayne's shop for 3 days instruction. The first day, they sat and he learned how to sharpen the chip carving knife. - yes - 8 hrs instruction on sharpening a knife. Mickey came home and started to practice chip carving and got better and better. He eventually sent Wayne a picture of one of his own projects - and Wayne used it as the cover picture for his next Chip Carving book! Micky went on to compete nationally and won numerous awards at competitive judged events.
