I bought these Bowflex adjustable dumbbells and rack for $280 just before the pandemic took off. I've seen this same setup go for $1,000 on eBay. It's madness what people are getting for gym equipment right now.

I picked this up at the weekend. A glass vase, about 7.5" tall, weighs about 12lbs!
I noticed it looked quite attractive and the design was made with glass within the glass and in several different layers to produce a three dimensional effect. I also noted the maker's mark in the glass and the engraved initials and date. Worth $6 of my money I thought.

Turns out it's a vase by Orient & Flume, a very collectable art glass maker out of Chico, CA. This piece was made there in 1985 by John DeWit, a Panamanian artist who now based in the Seattle area. The technique is called encased glass and it's basically painted into the molten glass with colored glass rods by my understanding. This design is called 'Star Flower'. It's DEFINITELY worth the $6 I paid and probably at least 100 times that!

Nice piece of artwork there Aerkuld. I've done a few art classes in glassblowing so I can recognize something great when I see it.

$100 got me the Snapper and the string trimmer. Both work as they should. I have a thing for the old snappers and I needed a new seat for the old one. The seat is perfect and it happened to come with a mower and trimmer. :D:D

Today after months of searching I found what I wanted . My 2001 GMC diesel 4x4 dually has the plain Jane steel wheels with the stainless steel covers I never liked them . So I have been searching local CL for a used set of wheels . Yesterday a set popped up and I called the guy , had a short chat and we setup a meeting for this morning . Unlike most guys I'm not looking to jack up my truck . I have a slide in truck camper and the lift system only clears the current bed height by about an inch or so .

So near stock height is what I wanted . This guy was selling six wheels/tires complete with all center caps and lug nuts . Tires are Michelin's and they easily have 15k - 20k of tread life left . I looked online last night and the wheels are available for around $250.00 per wheel x four = $1000.00 . Then about $50.00 for the chrome lug nuts . Tires new about $275.00 each and the two inner steel wheels about $100.00 . New the total would have been in the ballpark of $2250.00 I paid $800.00 total . I am a happy camper :D

When I unloaded them at home I looked them over carefully the wheels are a 10 out of 10 they are perfect . I am going to give them a wash and a hand polish before installing but they are ready as is . Here's a pic of the four aftermarket wheels/tires .

Great score. More and more often, I'm seeing duallies with super low profile tires. I always inwardly shake my head when I see them.

I drove behind a early to mid 80 GMC K1500 the other day on 22" rims. You could see daylight under the tires every ripple or bump in the road they hit. A death trap.

Quick story for you all.
Back during the heyday of the gas crisis, my brother has a big Chevy diesel pickup. Wants to put Alcoa's on it. Finds a dually with a built 454 in it and Alcoa's on it for sale in mid-coastal-California for $1200. Goes down and buys it. Swaps the wheels out, removes the engine, sells the bed/rear fenders and junks the rest at the scrap metal yard. His wheels ended up costing him nothing and he still has the built 454 in his Biscayne drag car.

rfuerst911sc 09-23-2020 01:08 PM

My dually has a stack of leaf springs that barely squat with 3000 lbs in the bed so I need some tire sidewall so it doesn't ride like a tank 😁 . To each his own but the low rider look is not for me on a truck .

Scott Douglas 09-23-2020 01:25 PM

My brother's 'no squat' dually with load installed.

I think he's going to be late for the Dead concert with THAT ticket.

:)

Early 80s I think. This one came with a bagger but it was a bit rough so I did not take it. In 2000 I paid $800 for one just like it. It finally wore out a year ago and I gave it away. The one I use now was $50 . New tires and a locked up 8 HP briggs. I got a 15.5 HP motor for it free and I use it every week. I only mow around 1/3 acre so I cant use a bigger mower. Nostalgia is a strange thing. I do not even want a newer one.

Nostalgia indeed! That mowers holds a very important place in pop culture/ movie history. Probably the second most famous movie mower ever.

I had one I paid $100 for 20 years ago. Five years I owned it it it was such a simple mower to keep running and the cool factor was immense.

I'm not sure how many sizes Snapper had but mine was like the Forrest Gump mower.

Yours looks a tiny bit bigger?

When we moved to Florida in 1970, my step father had one he used to mow his property. My brother and I were still in high school and living at home so of course we took turns doing the mowing. I learned you can reach back and hold the governor open for short bursts of speed! :D
