To my post, if you cross the street and they cross the street as well behind you, you shouldn't be concerned? I'll even go so far as to say any group of young folks following me and I cross the street and they do likewise, I should not be stupid. You're a law enforcement officer, what would you suggest that I do? I don't carry , but we film in South LA, Compton, etc. I never leave the filming location to wander around.

Well since a black guy is the one that started this thread in the first place, maybe some of us are outraged against those that do this type of crap. But, you said blacks in general, so I said be specific. I'm black, my moms black, my father is black and guess what, (surprise) they have never played knockout. in fact, in my 46 years, I've never known anybody to play knockout...But I have been called Nigger before by white people, so maybe all white people are racist.....


What would I suggest you do? The same thing you should do wherever you are, be situationally aware of your surroundings, and respond accordingly. If you don't think its safe to wander around Compton, then don't.

The fact of the matter is that it appears that Black youths are the ones doing this. If its whites or Asians as well then I'll retract my statement. However, if any group, regardless of race is following me, and I cross the street and they do the same thing, should I be concerned?

This thread is about a very small group of teenagers engaging in felonious assault in extremely isolated cases. I live in a large city with millions of blacks. Not only have I never personally heard of this crime occurring, I've never seen a news article about it happening in my city or elsewhere. And I read news papers online compulsively, everyday of my life. I read about lots of other heinous crimes committed by people of all races against other people of all races everyday. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this "knockout" deal is a pretty isolated crime.

It does appear to be the work of a small number of black teenagers who are horrible people without any sense of right or wrong. Is there anyone here who thinks that this behavior represents any significant slice of the total number of black youth in the U.S.? Seriously??

There are some here who just take a little too much glee in this example of teenaged thugs. WTF this has to do with President Obama, I cannot fathom. Do you think that there were no black thugs before he got elected? Or that Mexicans/whites/Armenians/Russians/whatever do not engage in heinous criminal behavior including violence against innocent victims?

How many here have been sucker-punched, and I mean really dry gulched by a young black person? Raise your hands. My hand is up. It was an attempted robbery when I was driving cab many years ago. I was bent over counting change out and I still see the scar on my brow every time I see my face in a mirror. So why aren't I a scared racist like some of the pansies here who have probably never taken a punch in their life? Why don't I cross the street when I see a group of young blacks?

Because I know how fking rare and odd it is to be the victim of that type of assault. Plus, I'm not a scared racist hiding out on the Internet. Here's an idea: instead of crossing the street, make pleasant eye contact with people and don't get caught staring at your feet if some POS does want to rob or assault you. You might even make them think twice. At least you won't be fearfully staring at your feet and able to be sucker punched.

Lastly, whenever anyone, anywhere talks about "White Power" or white civil rights or how whites are the victims of institutional racism, they themselves are hard-core racists. This has been true all my life and it will never change.

The difference is if I hear of some neo Nazi asswipes acting up, I wouldn't paint all "whites" in that category. Are you afraid of all "Blacks" or the young thug looking black males shown in the video....

Like Denis said, until I was shown the video, I had never hear anything about this, so I think its pretty isolated.

There is some talk that it's being under reported. I'm not sure how you can say its "isolated" if it's happening in many cities. Of course, folks have websites to share things they like, just we do we here.

Actually Denis, I think the crazy cracker as the one doing the knocking out is the thing.

You can't go around being 100% on your guard all the time, singularly tough if you are blind, like one of the victims I saw was. That guy looked schizophrenic to me, not actually doing the knockout thing, so I don't know if you can count that one. Sketchiness is color blind, bad people come in all colors.

I think the best you can do is listen to your intuition. If it says, those guys are up to no good, you go across the street.

With the sucker punch thing, I am surprised more people have not died. If you never see it coming, you wake up with a headache, if you are lucky and wake up.

Most definitely you cannot be on guard at all times. But if you are walking past a group of teenage boys who look like they are out for a rowdy time, be 100% heads-up.

I think that the kids or young adults who are doing this are completely amoral, I'm just not ready to project this behavior onto black people or black youth in general. The black population of the U.S. is not some small group of people. There are some pretty hard-core racists on this board, don't join camp with them.

I am surprised by strongly race is playing in this discussion. I have seen a single news report about this "game" and race was not brought up, and one of the video examples was definitely black on black and I think one was three white guys "playing".
These are arrogant irresponsible kids not thinking through there actions, but that is hardly a new phenomenon. I can think of heavy reports of groups of kids beating and in some cases killiing homeless people a number of years ago, seems to me to be pretty much the same thing. I bet if you look through history disenfranchised amoral youths have always prayed on unsuspecting or weak targets.
