Almost Banned Once
|
About 6 on a good day. I'm 48.
When I was 20ish and in the Army I could do 20 easy as part of the physical fitness test.

57 But, I am 6'4" and 225lbs., and in great shape. Weight to strength ratio matters. My youngest brother just turned 50. He can do 20. He's 6' 1" and weighs 180.

Amazing!!! . I'd say zero today. I'll be 68 in Dec. At the club, I do Lat pull-downs on the machine - that's about it. I worked out heavily in my youth...I was big into sports. I used to do pull-ups behind my head as well as under my chin. I had a Bruce Lee body. In boot camp (18 yrs. old) we climbed that rope (I don't know - 40 ft., maybe)...most guys used their legs wrapped around the rope as they climbed. I was able to just grab the rope and zip right up to the top just using my arms. Those were the days! Youth, it's a shame to waste it on the young.

I can do 5-6 at age 47 but this wouldn't be the only indicator for me. My left shoulder isn't in the right place, so that doesn't let me engage my lat as it should(I keep saying I'm going to get this looked at). I also weigh #220 right now at 5'10". Working towards #200, this will get me into 32" waist pants with no muffin top.
Right now I can curl 50# dumbells. At age 45, I could squat, deadlift and bench #300(I'm probably close now, I took a little time off). I didn't start lifting until I was 40. dean

Unreal! . I used to curl 45# each arm in my 'fightin' days'. The other day I bought my g/f a 45# box of Duralogs. I couldn't believe how I struggled w/that box.

I did 50 in 8th grade, for the school record.
I don;t have anywhere to do any, but I could probably do a few. I'm 54.

I think the ability to do pull ups has more to do with fitness than age. Granted, I suspect that level of fitness often decreases as we begin to get older.
I'm in my early/mid 40s and could probably manage a few. I suspect that if I worked at it, I could be up to 20 in a couple of months. In HS, I could climb a rope without using my legs.

I could prob muster about 10 today at 37 even though I weigh 240 lbs. About 5 years ago I did 17 in our company gym on a challenge from a co worker. I naturally strong I benched almost 400lbs in highschool and deadlifted 600 lbs. I hardly work out right now and am a fatty and still think I could bench 300 if I had to. Can barely run a mile unfortunately

When I was 13 years old I could regularly do between 100-120 pulls ups. A few others could do 80 or so, one other guy could do 100 but not repeat in the same week.
Last year after a multi-year break from exercise I decided to do a warm up of 20 or so push ups. I could have done 50 or so, but I'm glad I stopped. A couple of days later I noticed I pulled something, I think I'm finally over it but I'm being very careful. I still cannot throw a ball very far.

If it wasn't the extra 20-30 lbs of dead weight we had to pull compared to then we were 18, I am sure we can do a few more.

I never have been able to do them. I swam, ran, cycled etc.
During my school years the only thing that kept me from getting the Presidential Fitness Award was pull ups.

In my younger years I could always do 20 plus underhand. Those days are over. After reading this I went out to the garage and pumped out a whopping 7. I'm 58.

Hmmmmmm... I don't know. Now I am curious. I will go find a place to do some pull ups and report back. I don't remember doing them as a kid. Maybe for fitness testing? But I don't remember how many I could do. I lift weights now and work out my arms a lot in dance class.
I am female and 39... |
