Some jobs you are NOW mandated to get a flu shot
Thank you big Goberment

Mandated by the job, or the government? Are you free to quit said job and get another in this country you speak of?

There are all kinds of laws mandating you to do all kinds of things regarding public safety. Most are logical and prudent. Considering that influenza is a deadly disease that is extremely contagious from casual, public contact, I'm surprised that vac shots are not mandatory. I have a very young and otherwise healthy friend in the hospital right now with a life-threatening case of pneumonia that started out as asian flu. 28 years old.

And you know what? I did not get a flu shot this year. Because I got one last year and got some other (minor) flu anyways. I'm supposed to get one because I have no spleen, but some years I do, some I don't. Because it's optional, you kooky anti-government zealot. :)

Our local hospital requests all employees receive flu shots.
Its optional, but if you decline the shot they want you to wear a surgical mask at work.

As a Federal employee we were offered optional Flu shots at no cost.

I call BS on the adverse reactions and getting the flu from the shot. Even if there are cases, chances of dying from the flu (even as a healthy adult) are orders of magnitude higher than a reaction leaving you sick.

Frankly, I get upset when people bash medicine, science and engineering and want to go back to nature after we worked so hard to get where we are today. Life expectancies of 75+ years in most first world countries. It must have to do with all the evil that science and engineering has brought to us ... I invite all the nay sayers to move to the third world and quit theorizing from behind their keyboards, relying on everyone else around them keeping up to date on their vaccinations. ;)

When our son was born I got a flu shot and the next year I got one as well. Both times I was violently ill a few days after receiving the shot. I have not been that ill before or since. Once being sick afterwards I would write up as coincidence, but not twice. They are free where I work and push every year to make it mandatory, but there would be a mass exodus if they did.

There's always a chance things might go sideways, but I've always gotten mine each year.

What we really need is a way to vaccinate people against stupidity.

There are about 5 people dead from the H1N1 flu in our area and the vaccine is in short supply....just thought I would mention it.

afterburn 549 01-08-2014 08:59 AM

yea? (and truly sorry about that ) But, would it have done any good?
Was not this flu shot geared for an other strain?

flipper35 01-08-2014 09:07 AM

Of the people at work here that are out with the flu, one had the shot back in November, the other did not. Both residents had the shot and are quarantined.

I do wear a mask as required when in contact with others, but I think it would be a good idea for everyone here to wear a mask when in contact with people.

No, and the word you want is "another"

The flu shot is really a plot by the NSA to inject microscopic tracking and intelligence gathering devices into an unsuspecting populace. The recommendation for an annual shot is to make up for devices lost through cuts, scrapes, or menstruation. If you get this shot, the only way to ensure your privacy is through liberal application of tin foil on all parts of your body. Placement only on the head has been found to be insufficient.

That's another altogether different program.

flipper35 01-08-2014 12:36 PM

The metallic compounds in the contrails reflect the signal to and from the body to the receiving station.

I get a flu shot every year because I don't want to get the flu and I never do.

That and I've got the hots for the lady who administers the shot, so I look forward to it every year. I'm not sure she feels the same about me, though. Someday I might let her know how I feel.

Nathans_Dad 01-09-2014 04:48 AM

The CDC tries to predict what strains of the flu will be active in the US each season based on what is active in other parts of the world during their flu season. With so much international travel it's getting harder to do. Like weathermen, sometimes they're right, sometimes not.

I get a flu shot each year, I'm required to by the hospital. I'd still get one if I wasn't though. I've seen too many people die of the flu or superimposed pneumonia to risk it.
