Watching this one right now....pretty good!
Based on the real life story of Alan Turing (played by Benedict Cumberbatch), who is credited with cracking the German Enigma code, THE IMITATION GAME portrays the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team at Britain's top-secret code-breaking centre, Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II. Turing, whose contributions and genius significantly shortened the war, saving thousands of lives, was the eventual victim of an unenlightened British Establishment, but his work and legacy live on.

That certainly was a great movie but it made it look like the British broke the code all on their own.
- The Brits did a lot of the work including refining the technique but they got a lots of help initially from Polish exiles and then later from the Americans. (I wonder why the Poles were trying to crack German code before the WW2? ![]() The other really big "crack" was the Japanese WW2 code system and you guys did that on your own. You get some idea about it from the new movie "Midway". If you haven't seen Midway I'd highly recommend it but it's worth doing some reading about the battle and what lead up to it before watching the movie. It also benefits from multiple viewings. https://slate.com/human-interest/2013/11/u-s-in-world-war-ii-how-the-navy-broke-japanese-codes-before-midway.html

You might want to have a look at Occupied on NetFlix. It's a very interesting story on how Russia slowly occupies Norway. It's several years old but it somewhat makes yo think of what's happening over there now.
I watched it twice, I found it that interesting. Last edited by hughc; 02-11-2022 at 02:00 PM.. Reason: spelling |

I stumbled on a Jackie Gleason movie today from 1969. Please Don't Drink The Water. Sort of a cold war comedy, it was o/k
Yesterday I saw Angel Face with Robert Mitchum. Thurston Howell the third was the prosecutor. I'm hooked on TCM Noir Alley which airs Sat. at midnight and Sunday at 10 am

"The Firm" - based on the Grisham novel. Just started on Sundance.
Great cast! The FBI agent is also the detective in "Bosch" who hangs out at the bar with the tatted bartender.....plus there's a young Jeanne Tripplehorn......... ![]()

Warrior (2011) was entertaining. Certainly not perfect, but Tom Hardy was outstanding. Nick Nolte and Joel Edgerton were also good. Some good fight sequences.

"One-eyed Jacks" was on earlier. I caught the last hour. Seen it before. Really great Brando movie. If you look it up, lot of interesting aspects of how it was created.
Love the scenery along the Monterey peninsula. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-Eyed_Jacks
