I finally saw the most recent Star Trek this weekend, Star Trek - Beyond. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't nearly as good as the two that came before it. There just wasn't enough story and character in it. It was mostly about CGI. We were pretty disappointed, much like the Ghostbusters remake. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't good either.

I didn't see the first Jack Reacher and haven't seen the most recent either, but I've watched some trailers and scenes and would like to see at least one of them.

This past weekend I watched part of MI:3. I liked what I saw.

Low key sci fi that will get in your head:

"Perfect Sense"

Also

"Right at Your Door"

Also: I went to see Dr. Strange so you don't have to. Competent eye candy, but just not coherent enough.

Watching 'RONIN" on QVTV tonight. I've seen it many times but it's such a great flick.

Yeah Wayne....that's a cult classic, as well. I bought the VHS from eBay right after it came out.

This one I'm watching I haven't seen in I bet 20 years. I forgot how intense it is. Christopher Walken and Sean Penn back in 1986 - wow what a combo!

Well Wayne....you would be proud.....

'Ronin' on at 8 eastern tonight on THIS TV.

Watching the end of "The Taking of Pelham 123" right now - the original. Remember the very end when Martin Balsam sneezes....and Walter Matthou gives him that look....great ending!

Another YES vote for At Close Range. Saw it last night. Christopher Walken, Sean Penn, his brother and mother, and Kiefer Sutherland. Great true story. Great actors.

Laid up after a minor surgery and have been watching a pile of movies the last few days.

Watched "Fury" on Netflix yesterday and really enjoyed it.

The 1962 Sam Peckinpah classic "Ride the High Country"....on TCM right now.

Quote:
In 1992, Ride the High Country was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the United States Library of Congress as being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." The film featured Scott's final screen performance and was the last McCrea film to win any critical acclaim.
This is Mariette Harley's first film!

Edge of Tomorrow is outstanding.

You don't have to endure nuttin' to appreciate. It rocks.

Edit: Cruise's character demonstrated humility. He was not at all Jack Reacher in this movie (but I still like Jack Reacher).

So imagine a joint Iraq-Iran love story about a gang of kids being hired to collect undetonated US mines someplace in Iraq in three languages (Kurdish, Arabic, American).

Kids with no arms being relegated to the domestic nurturing of a blinded toddler whilst still semi-able-bodied groups of children survive by the inevitable mutilation and deaths of some of them.

'Turtles Can Fly' is the title.
