On another channel (Grit) I'm watching "The Magnificent Seven" - which just started. I've always liked the first part of this movie the best, when the 7 are each introduced to the viewer. McQueen and Yul first taking the hearse to the cemetery. The guy comes up afterwards and says "I'll never forget that if I live to be 100!" I know how he feels!

Watched "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" last night - for the umpteenth time.
Still funny as hell and one of the best movies ever made......

Ray Walston as the tightly wrapped teacher was so good. He's incredulous when Spicoli gets a pizza and asks what's going on. "Learning about Cuba, and having some food." Then he comes to Spicoli's house for payback on his wasted time, bringing the needed textbook in case Spicoli didn't have his. The Judge Reinhold "Single, successful guy." Phoebe Cates' pool scene/Judge Reinhold's squeezing one out. Classic! "I've been thinking about this. If I'm here, and you're here, isn't this our time?" The Pat Benetar clique. The Mike Damone character. I guess Sean Penn gets the most credit, but there was a lot to go around. "My dad is a TV repairman- he's got an awesome set of tools. We can fix this" "You dick!" "I know that dude!" The stoner surfer character. Blowing his Brooke Shields life saving reward on Van Halen playing at his birthday party. THE SOUNDTRACK!

I watched about 20 minutes of it and changed channels. I thought it sucked.

Watched The Hurricane (1999) again last night. It's long, but very good. Got interested after listening to Bob Dylan's song, which is awesome with the violin.

The 1982 John Carpenter version of "The Thing" - on TCM - started 15 minutes ago.
What I like here is Russell's character is close to his Snake Plisken one in "Escape from New York" - also directed by John Carpenter. As always - commercial free!

The Thing (1982) is one of my favorite sci-fi/horror movies.
This gets good around 3:50...

A while back I watched ZZ TOP: THAT LITTLE OL' BAND FROM TEXAS on Netflix. Recommended after that was If I Leave Here Tomorrow: A Film About Lynyrd Skynyrd. An OK movie, not great. My main takeaway from that was that Ronnie Van Zant was a mean drunk, and even if they weren't in that plane crash, they might not have lasted long after that anyway.
That led me to watching Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash. What a terrible movie. No Skynyrd music in it, Ronnie's estate wouldn't release it, in fact they tried to block the movie's release. Skip it. |

I think these are excellent, directed by Jonathan Demme and Martin Scorsese:

I may watch this monkey attack movie, "Link" tonight, because of Shue. Thank you for that. I do like her. However, I'm unsure of your age. Let me be perfectly clear speaking from the podium of wisdom granted to elderly fellows who speak volumes with little forethought. There can be only one Link in the whole of monkeys on screen. Idiocracy. I didn't watch it when it first came out but I've been watching a few youtube clips and reading the comments and the one comment that got my attention was "It was supposed to be a comedy but turned out to be a documentary". So true.
