Outdoor Superbowl A Stupid Mistake

Following that logic all playoffs should be held in covered stadiums in warmer climates so there is no unfair advantage or chance of weather affecting the outcome of who goes to the Stupid Bowl.
Which leads to the next logical leap that all regular season games should be played in doors so as not to unduly affect the outcome of who makes the playoffs. Sorry, football is played wherever, whenever in any kind of weather. I'd like to know when Mike developed a mangina.

Mr Rozelle said the Super Bowl should always be someplace warm. Statement made after the Ice Bowl in Green Bay. All the playoff games are a totally different story, not played on a neutral field.

I see Mike Ditka's point, been hearing the same at the cigar lounge by some friends over the past few weeks.
I don't understand why the NFL is doing open stadium just based on the infamous half-time show which has overshadowed the main event for at least two decades. I guess if you want to see the art of the play over the grunge of the battle then you will want an enclosed venue.

I would rather see the games played in an environment that allows the players to perform at their best. Good conditions allow for more explosive offensive play.

Goodell should resign. Not because they're playing a SB in the cold, but because of the REASON they're playing a SB in the cold.
A SB was prommissed under the table in order to obtain funding for the new stadium (most expensive EVER built), they didn't care if it was a bad idea or not. They wanted that big shiny new stadium so they caved. Too much $$$$ involved with building that new stadium and the NY area is too big of a market to ignore. The SB is 'sposed to be worth Half a billion in revenue ............... |

Agree with Mike. These teams have suffered enough to get to where they are. The AFC/NFC championship games? Sure, have them duke it out wherever the seeding says. The Superbowl is really a kind of formality. It should be in a good climate to showcase the players' abilities.
Maybe get rid of the Pro Bowl (which is a joke anyway) and have the SB in Hawaii every year. Why not? The people that can afford tickets will fly out there anyway.

Disagree. I think outdoors is fine.
Now, we can argue over Jersey as the venue. The Meadowlands (or whatever they call it now) is a stupid place to hold the Super Bowl. It's not really NYC, and it's not going to draw the crowds, but I guess we will see how it goes. /disclosure: born and raised in Jersey. Giants fan.

Football is one of the few sports that still plays in any weather condition. To be the best you have to be able to overcome the weather, it's one of the things that makes the sport interesting. It's one of the few things that they haven't tried to sissify (yet). I'm all for it.

I have always thought they should just move the season up....it starts too late, let it finish in October.... But every team in the league should have a chance at hosting....you cant limit to warmer climates or dome stadiums.

good to see who can handle the cold and still perform - sort of like 10th Mtn. Div.
maybe next year it should be played in super-humid hot conditions to see what happens there then shift to the desert for hot & arid conditions we'll see if the weather effects can cause more injuries than the blunt force trauma |

Too funny, as it comes from a guy that won his only Super Bowl ring as player in the coldest Super Bowl ever to date.
I guess it was stupid to play SB VI in Tulane Stadium, in Louisiana.
