Everybody WANTS nice things. Just not everyone is willing to work for them, hence sour-grapes!

I don't think its your Porsche. Most people doesn't even notice it. It their poor driving habit or simply don't know how to drive.

I agree. The guy riding my bumper was off riding someone else's bumper minutes later. I think if it's related to anything, it's related to vehicle mass. I don't think the bumper-riders follow large vehicles quite as closely. In So Cal, Porsches are rather common. They don't draw a lot of attention.

I will guarantee if confronted they'll absolutely get indignant and lash out about it being everyone else's fault, how it's not them, it's you, etc... No sense of accountability or guilt. Kind of a reflection of the rest of society and it's broken-moral-compass, no-self-evaluation, sense-of-entitlement values.

In the land of pickup trucks and SUVs my vw golf commuter sees a lot of front bumpers in the back window. Trying to intimidate you into driving faster, I guess.
The SC is another thing. People see a red 911 and think that you must be ready to race...
It's 30 years old and 180 hp for goodness sake.

Low barrier to getting a license = every moron has one. The sheer stupidity I've seen the last few snowy days around here is unreal. If you can't slow down with 10" of snow, I don't have any sympathy when you end up in a ditch.

When they follow a small car they can see above them and far away, so to judge stopping distance is much easier then following a bus. That's why little cars get tailgated so much more them larger ones. People fail to understand that. Bicyclist get this crap all the time. They are going 15-20 on the street, the car or driver is sitting right on the rider's tail only because he can see ahead and can react much faster (only if they pay attention without looking at the goddamn big screen TV in the middle of the dash) then the rider so they ride his ass. I tailgate, but not riding the guy's bumper. Its definitely not so many seconds like I should in the driver's handbook. In tight flowing traffic around here, if you don't do this, you will never get anywhere.

When someone tailgates me I usually decide that it's time to clean my windshield with a good long squirt of washer fluid. Most times they will back off. Doesn't work so well if I'm driving the cab with the top down.

I've considered carrying pennies or BBs in the ash tray n my car for tailgaters, but on the freeway with multiple lanes, there's no guaranty where they would go, and even though BBs are too small and light to do any damage, I still figure it's better to not retaliate.

This is my favorite tactic as well, and I always make sure my washer tank is topped up for this very reason. Throwing stuff like golf balls or marbles onto the road can damage other vehicles along with your intended target...not a good idea.
In my experience, I find that drivers of big, bloated vehicles like lifted full-size pickups and extra-large SUVs tend to be some of the most aggressive. These aren't people in the trades with company trucks, mind you...but guys who just like driving something BIG, and who enjoy hogging up more than their share of the road.

I've always had the thought of inventing a device which can relay a few words to someone either in front or behind you while driving.

An electronic sign, if you will.

You could have some default words such as:

"BACK OFF PLEASE"

"COULD YOU GIVE IT A BIT MORE GAS PLEASE?"

"PLEASE MOVE OVER SO I CAN GET BY - THANK YOU."

"HOW ABOUT A TURN SIGNAL NEXT TIME PLEASE?"

I don't know if it would even be a problem with traffic law - it could simply go in the back window or on the front bumper........or you could simply hold it out the window instead of your middle finger for example....
