Thanks, but I live out in the colonies and importing is a PITA in regard to gun stuff. I can walk in and buy it off the shelves but not import it without a license - but thanks.
I bought some Black Hills 52 GR Match, which I believe is good stuff, but I really wanted to try out the light 40 GR stuff through my gun that has a 1 in 12 twist barrel.. |

Bill, I load 40 grain Hornady V-Maxes in my .223. It's a Remington 700 with a 14" twist barrel. They shoot great, and I think within the range and velocity limitations of the .223, they are a very good bullet. Incidentally, I also shoot the 60 grain V-Max or 60 grain Sierra in the same rifle with good results. You should have no trouble with the 12" twist and 52-60 grain bullets, if you wind up stuck with them for the time being.
Primers, brass, and component bullets are once again more or less available here. Powder is lagging behind, though. I don't pay any attention to the availability of loaded ammo (since I don't buy any), but my shooting buddies who do say it's not bad as far as availability again. It might be awhile before it trickles down to your corner of the world, though.

Thanks Jeff. I load a lot of .45ACP, a little bit of 9mm and some .38 Special but I didn't really want to start doing .223 stuff as I hardly ever shoot it. But a month or two ago I was at a 200 yard range and my .17HMR was way outshooting the .223, plus my buddy's AR15 was outshooting the Sako .223 so I thought I'd try to find an ammo it liked. Someone had said the slow twist 1:12 of the Sako really likes the very light projectiles, whereas I'd been using 55GR stuff.
We seem to have all the reloading stuff you could ever want here, but loaded ammo is going to/staying in the US being a bigger market than lil' ole us. |
