A friend's favorite phrase was "You are just where you want to be in life." Every choice and every decision you made was your choice. That is what led you to be right there right now.

For the most part, every decision you make from taking a shower in the morning to kissing your wife goodnight is a decision that may change your life.

I always considered that a little harsh. Some decisions in life are between horrible and even worse. Victims of crime or true random accidents did not participate in any decision.

I had a cousin that owned a 70s Corvette. He went to the store to get some diapers for his infant son, and was crushed by a pickup-truck driver drunk off his ass running a red light. Dead, right there.

His other vehicle? A 60s Triumph motorcycle. No matter what vehicle he would have chosen, he would have been a dead duck.

Folks who think that life is a result of choices only are delusional. There are plenty of times where chance and luck play a huge part in your success or failure. I was once late to a job interview because of a traffic accident. I had NO PART in the choices made by others that day. Without that accident, I would have been VERY early to my interview (as is my habit - I will wait in my car reading a book until it is time to walk in the door.) I did not get the job because I didn't make the interview on time. A minor fail, because I got a different job a couple of weeks later. But saying that my choices made me miss that interview is the height of stupid.
