What if the Iranians are now in possession of the 777? Iran hostage V2? I mean the two stolen passports were Iranian... Would make good leverage for the recent sanctions... Just a thought.

If the Captain were involved it's more likely that Malaysia itself is the target.

IMHO, this pilot was doing training on his simulator and more than likely training others as well. He probably practiced landing that thing on a lot shorter than normal runway etc...

One has to figure this: If it is just a terrorist attack then why be so secretive about the destruction of the plane if in fact it is at the bottom of the ocean? I mean you would want everyone to find it if you deliberately downed it right?

On the other hand, if the plane did in fact land, you either need the plane for some unknown reason or you need the passengers as a bargaining tool or both...

It is possible the plane was hijacked (I think it's plausible). Hundreds of passengers most likely had cell phones - wouldn't some of them, curious about something unusual taking place, text a family member that something odd was going on?

Haven't read every post, apologies if this was already brought up...

From what I understand, this particular plane did not have the ability for cell use...

FL45, lower the pressure, goodbye witnesses and those pesky cell phones.

This thing sounds worse every hour.

Doesn't the Navy still use the E-2 and if so, would one be airborne in the area? I ask because I am not sure where the carrier groups were at the time.

My GUESS:

Either the pilot or the co-pilot (no one knows which) waited for the other person in the cockpit to go to the bathroom. He locked the cabin door, and de-pressurized the airplane. With real oxygen he lives when everyone is dead when the O2 generators quit.

He could not bring himself to crash and he knew he could not go back with a plane load of dead passengers. He flew on until it ran out of fuel and he crashed into the ocean.

Some drug cartel guy is taking delivery of one slightly used Boeing 777.

No clue at all. Could be alien abduction at this point. Really crazy.

they don't keep 1 up 24/7 at that time flight ops were probably secure (no flying)

Which could also explain the ringing cell phone reports. Though that would require that the airplane would be somewhere with cell service, which means somewhere near civilization. I can't imagine that he managed to land a 777 somewhere near civilization without being noticed.

Would like to learn more of this report:

Reports that an anonymous pilot told Malaysian newspapers that he had heard a 'mumbled' last transmission from the aircraft - although this is contradicted by air traffic controllers who say there was no distress call.

The captain, who asked to remain anonymous, told Malaysian media outlets he was asked to get in contact with the pilot flying the missing plane on an emergency frequency and establish their position.
He said he believes he spoke to the co-pilot, but that there were 'interference' and 'mumbling' before they lost the connection.

It's easier and cheaper to LEASE a plane than it is to steal one.
They're fish food IMO.

I just can't imagine the plane was stolen and is still intact. I know any aircraft that has any FAA oversight has to use certified parts. They can't part the thing out except to sell it as scrap. That airplane and any remains will never fly again except as cargo going to a accident reconstruction facility. That is assuming it is ever found. If it is 20,000 feet deep broken into little pieces it may vanish forever.
