Little league has started, all is right with the world

Love this time of year! Or maybe better stated I love what this time of year leads to. Soon we'll be cheering kids at the plate and watching the O's tear it up over a table of steamed crabs.

I'm particularly excited as my sons LL team has a lot of great kids and great parents on it. The coach has a great attitude too.

We've had some great coaching over the winter and it's so much fun watching the kids grow and learn. At 9 yrs old they are starting to take the game a bit more serious and have their heads in the game. Too cool.

My 9 year old just started baseball practice last week. He's juggling baseball and flag football this spring, fortunately he's a sports nut so it doesn't bother him. It is a great time, particularly when they get older and it starts to look like an actual sport. The yearly progression is simply amazing.

We just started focusing on getting the hips turned before the upper body swing starts....amazing results.

All the good stuff the kids are learning just makes it so much more fun to watch pro ball as well since you start to understand just how much is really going on. My son started catching this year and that is something I knew nothing about before. Really cool to watch the pro's do it now that we have some understanding of what to watch.

No joy in it for me this year. I enrolled my grandson last year, went to every practice with him, played pitch and catch all the time. When the season started I began teaching him how to play - always pay attention the game even if you're in the dugout, always think about what the players on the field should be doing, keep your head in the game, always know what the next play is. Then azzhat "dad" starts coming to the games, playing hero. He pulls the kid aside and starts coaching him on hitting and catching during the game. Kid gets on the field and doesn't even know the score. Azzhat yells at the kid if he doesn't get a hit or make a catch. He never came to a practice, but always had time to get in the way at a game. The kid hasn't mentioned 2014 baseball yet, and if he doesn't I'm not going to bring it up.

Patrick, your son in law sounds like someone needs to beat his azz, too bad you are a grown up and can't take care of it yourself.


I loved playing catcher as a kid, you are in on every play and can see everything happening. Sometimes I would beat the hitter to first going to back up the throw.

They usually made me play center field.

I'm a few years away from baseball/softball with my kids. This summer will be the first time I take my oldest daughter to the ball park. Peanuts, hot dogs, and all the good stuff. I can't wait!
