So... about 6 gallons of gas?

I think it would be fun to get one that is immaculate interior and exterior wise but just needs engine work and freshen it up, nothing too wild, and ditch the car and do one of those easy-EFI kits that just bolt up to where the car used to. All you have to do is plumb in a high pressure in line fuel pump, run a few wires and weld in an O2 sensor bung and you're running.

Gives a car like this modern drive-ability, better fuel mileage, better cold and hot start, etc etc.

Update:

Finally started to dig into a few things. First, the engine and tranny are not original. It's an Olds 350 in it, with a TH350 Tranny. I fixed some vacuum leaks and the quadrajet is running properly, and now the secondaries are opening. Also, the tranny is now shifting the way it should, as well.

I just put new tires on it last night. This made a world of difference. That being said...the suspension is all original. Meaning...I just ordered an entire Moog suspension kit for this thing. I also ordered a new steering box, since the adjustment proved to net little gain in steering feel.

I also picked up new springs for all four corners, air shocks for the rear, and new Monroes for up front.

I will probably paint the car back to it's original color. I was thinking about doing the torq- thrusts, and all that...but I think I will leave it completely stock looking. The original color was "Sterling Mist" which is a silver-ish blue.

I started to do some cleaning of the interior...which is all it needs. the vinyl is in fine shape. The headliner is good too...just needed to be cleaned up.

For somewhere in the $7500 ballpark you can get the LS3 E-Rod package, which is a plug and play 430 HP LS3 kit designed to bolt into a hot rod. That would be fun in an old school wagon.

See, I told you that you may already have a 3 speed.

Did you see what year the 350 is? Check the cast number next to the oil filler tube. What heads are on it? Check the large letter - sorry, I think it is numbers on the small blocks. A single number, i.e. 5. This will give you an idea if you are dealing with a pig smog motor or a nicer 68-71. The later the heads, the bigger the combustion chambers and lower the compression.

http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofhed.htm

Now that we know it isn't the original drivetrain, I'd look into a 67 driveline swap. I'd go with a 425/th400 combo. Go old(s) school!

Have fun!!!

it's a pig driveline. '78-80 block with 3A heads. HA!

Now that I know the 330 isn't in it...I won't feel so bad about making it fun

Oh man ... that's a bummer. Compared to the original 330, anyway. The block is same era, I assume? If it was earlier, you could always get some #5 heads on it and a cam. It'd wake it up considerably.

So, we'll all stay tuned to hear what's going to go into it.

Me too, but the SS2 wheels were usually painted grey, as pictured, when new.

I always dug those rally style, steel wheels.

Nice score on the wagon

Edelbrock does a cam and heads kit for that motor that is pretty sweet. That TH350 transmission is plenty for that car.

Really, there are small block Edelbrock heads for olds now? Looks like they interchange with the big block? I thought the bolts were larger diameter on the big blocks ...

At any rate, I would not put new aluminum cylinder heads on a smog era bottom end. I'd build the whole thing. And if you do, might as well go 455/TH400.

I was thinking about getting a (very) cheap beater pickup truck for the occasional home depot lumber run... probably out of my price range but what were you thinking of asking?

Your killing me. This thing shows up at the house on a trailer and I'll be living in it!
I'd really like to have it.
