Classic convertible T Bird VS city bus... bus wins

Sobering image for classic car fans. Happened last night in north Phoenix. Driver is critical, but alive as of last reports. Crash protection has come a long way.

Head-on into a bus is a horrific crash in ANY vehicle...let alone a pre-crumple zone car. Hope this lady comes out of it okay.

I was a kid in high school riding on a school bus when a pickup pulled out of an intersection and tried to occupy the same space as our bus. The pickup hit the bus right below the seat I was sitting in. The bus was hit hard and the pickup was destroyed. The bus hardly moved.

It would be interesting to see how rusty that T-bird was.

The bus will win every collision with a car.

A buddy of mine is a volunteer fireman, and was able to talk the local school district into donating an old bus to the fire department for rescue training. They had a hell of a time cutting an access hole because of the side beams sandwiched in the walls of the bus just under the windows. He said that if you ever see a bus that has a bent frame or buckled side, it was one hell of a hit that did it.

Most school bus bodies are built extremly well. Ive cut access holes in just about every area on one. Prefer to just take victims out a window, or rear emergency door if possible. If its on its side a hole in the roof works wonders. That being said, it still amazes me that they refuse to install seatbelts in them.

Hope the driver recovers. Damn, that looks like a '57 too. Can't be too many around. I agree all busses should have seat belts. I wonder what the reasoning for not having them is.

I've been on a couple of field trips with my kids. Both times the school buses had seat belts. 2 per seat.

That's around the corner from my house. It's a blind corner for the most part. Atleast the hospital and fire station are less then 5 mins away.

From the news reports, it sounds like they suspect that some sort of mechanical failure with the car was the cause.
